Won't start how ? When you turn the key to the start position does anything happen ? Does the starter engage an spin the engine ? If it does , what's missing ? Spark or fuel ? Pull a spark plug wire an stick a screw driver in the end of the plug wire an hold near metal on the engine (ground) Have someone crank the engine . Is there Spark ? Hook up a fuel pressure gauge ,does it have fuel pressure ? Videos on youtube showing how to do testing . No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy
ok penny , you have a G16 engine
and no spark, that mean at all 4 spark plugs and the coil?
5 places, ?
if the coil makes spark, but not at plugs. that means
the cam belt slipped, did you forget to do the 60,000 mile service?
sure.
turn crank by hand does distributor rotor spin?
No , belt snap.
same check , look and oil filler hole, does the cam spin? , cranked hand turned.?
no ?, belt is gone. CAM TIMING BELT.
yes turns, then check compression (a tool) at wide open throttle.
if compression is over 150 PSI, then ok
if way low, like 80 the cam belt is slipped,
all easy tests, all less that 20 bucks in tools.
FIRST check fuses.
then check that the Check engine light glows key on
if not , there is no DC electrical power to the ECU (injection system or spark or both. the ECU cuts fuel for no spark, (hint))
there are 3 fuses, that must be good, to start any suzuki this year.
2 are critical.
what do you mean by "won't turn over"??,does something stop a piston(s) from making its cycle?,interference engine (valves hitting pistons on its stroke). Do you mean it cranks but doesn't start? and if so,did you check for spark and timing for that cylinder????
Does the engine spin over and not start? Or turn the key and nothing happens? New spark plugs and wires won't have anything to do with the starter and battery keeping the engine from spinning when you turn the key. Need more specific explanation. Thanks, Scott
You can hear the started going but engine want crank ???????
The starter is spinning the engine over , but won't start an run ! The starter is cranking the engine ,but the engine doesn't start an run . OK ,enough of that > When it won't start (run ) what's missing ? Ignition spark or no fuel pressure ? Video's on youtube showing how to test for these . Has to be one or the other .
The FC3S is notorious for this and fueling issues. Check all ground points, battery cables and connections. Check the draw from the starter. If the voltage drops below 10V there is not enough power for the ignition, causing weak spark. It really needs to spin over 200rpm cranking. Pop starting does not necessarily mean the compression is good. You need to make sure it cranks fast enough to get a proper compression test with rotary tester, New NGK plugs, new NGK plug wires.
If it will turn over check to see if its fuel or fire. To check for fuel, spray quick start for a few seconds into intake. If it starts and stops. its fuel. Change fuel filter and check fuel pump. If it does not start its fire, Could be distributor cap, rotor, coil, spark plug wires or spark plugs. If it does not turn over it could be battery or starter. Check battrey connections, ground strap from motor to body and ground wire from battery to motor and body.
OK, I read it, now lets start at the top.... When you turn the key does the engine turn? If it turns, is there spark at the plug end of the ignition wires?(when it's turning) When you first turn the key on, can you hear the fuel pump in the tank running? I'll stay with this unless it gets complicated enough for you to need a shop.
Does it sound like its spinning or turning faster than normal? If so could just be flooded. Try cranking engine with excellerator 3/4 way down at 10 sec intervals with 2 min brake in between. These cars have always seemed to flood easy. And the air intake system is so enclosed it cant really dry out easy. I try that 3-4 times if it does seem like its trying to start or getting better than Id say tow to mechanic. Possible coil problems too? But seen alot of them flood out.
Well take a plug lead off any plug and the plug and put plug in lead and rest it on the engine with the thread resting on the metal block and then spin it over if a good blue spark then coil etc is all ok BUT if no spark then the coil could be faulty or condencer OR points need cleaning and regaping to 12thou
when all in good order start and test run .
Let me know how you get on Ron
