2000 chevy tahoe z71 5.7 v-8 won't start. Turns over and fires but will not start. Check fuel pressure and it's 55 psi. WHat's next?

Don't know what to check next. Plugs are fine. Turns over, fuel pressure is 55 psi, changed the fuel filter anyway...what is our next step?

We got it to start for a second using starter fluid in the carburator, then it died, otherwise, we do have spark, it tries to start. Tomorrow we are changing the fuel filter just in case but after that, we are kind of lost as to what to check next.

If it will run on starting fluid, and you know for a fact the fuel line has 55 psi of pressure, I would say something is not allowing the injectors to open.

When you say it fires, are you checking for spark at the plugs ?
In most cases you have to figure out if it is spark, fuel, or compression to proceed. A mechanic would also check the computer for trouble codes but you would need a scanner or code reader to do that.

Hello, yes the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly. The check valve is leaking and the pump will burn out soon. Unfortunately the aftermarket fuel pumps can be very unreliable. A good portion of problems we see on this site are from people who replace the pump sometimes twice and it still doesn't work.

if it does not start after you check your distributor cap that means you took the car out of timing, when you put the distributor cap back on you did not put it is the correct position, now you need a mechanic to get the timing of the engine

Could be as simple as your fuel filter...after the truck starts..can you keep it runing by gunning the motor?

If you can feather the accelerator to keep the motor runing, I'd start at the filter, and then check the fuel pump

Chevy Tahoe 2000 Z71 won't start!

Just for the record, its a throttle body not a carb.
Sounds like the injectors are not getting power or a ground signal from the computer.
You would check them with a meter or low voltage test light.

I have a 1997 Chevy Tahoe and at times my truck won't crank...it use to do it every once in a while now it does it several times a day..I changed.the started but I think it is the starter ignition...

So you can hear the starter cranking the engine over but it will not start? If so check fuel pressure. I think you still have the old CPI fuel injection. If this is the case it is very sensitive to fuel pressure. I think spec is 60 psi and the lowest you would need to have is 58 psi. As little as one psi can be the difference between starting and not starting.

Turns over but won't start

first check the fuel pressure(at least 55 psi). then check for ignition fire and injector pulse.

03 Tahoe Z71 Flex Fuel won't start and run. Engine turns over, fires, but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump run but it is not a steady sound like I would normally hear. I am getting a P0

It wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. you should see somewhere around 48 - 55 psi. the test port is on the fuel rail about in the middle of the rail and on the drivers side.

If the fuel fuel pressure is low it wouldn't hurt to make sure there is power to the fuel pump before condemning it. Power is supplied to the pump by the larger of the two grey wires.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the fuel tank will need to be dropped from the vehicle in order to service the fuel pump.

If you decide to replace the fuel pump get an a/c delco or a delphi pump. These are the best two option for your vehicle. Do not get an airtex brand. They are not reliable pumps although they are cheap.

2002 blazer 4 wheel drive hard to start

If the pressure is slow to rise, you should consider changing the fuel filter if it has not been done in the past 30,000 miles.
Next, disconnect a spark plug and check for spark while engine is cranking. Use a spark tester or old spark plug grounded to the engine block.
Let me know.
