SOURCE: no heat or a/c

From what your saying, it works in a sense, but very little air is blowing out. I had this issue with my '96 328i where the climate control was only running the fans at a low speed no matter what setting I put it on. The resolution to my problem was replacing the final stage unit for the climate control and now my heat and a/c work beautifully and the fan goes from low to high without problems. If you don't have climate control but the manual dials for the heat and a/c, then you may need to change the blower resistor pack. For either unit, it can be located in several places and you'll have to do some searching to find it good. If the convertible is any similar to the 4dr sedan I have, it should be located under the dash panel on the drivers side at the rear of the console. Hopefully this link may help you out.

SOURCE: 1994 BMW 318i Fuse Box layout

the fuses u are looking for are as follows:
From the top left first row its# 4
then the bottom row its # 19
I also wanted to point out. from 1989 to 1996 the brake switch was the common failure for bmw's
the series it included were 318i, 525-540i, and all 7 series. if the fuses dont fix it.. its the switch
located under a panel u need remove on the drivers side on the steering collum

SOURCE: NEED RADIO CODE FOR 1996 BMW 328I

YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE RADIO AND CALL LOCAL BMW. GIVE THE SERIAL NUMBER AND THE CAN GIVE YOU THE CODE. VERY EASY TO REMOVE. FLIP TWO LITTLE FLAPS BACK ON EACH SIDE OF UNIT IN THE FRONT. WILL FIND TO VERY SMALL ALLEN BOLTS. LOOSEN BOTH AND RADIO SHOULD POP RIGHT OUT.

Testimonial: "thank u for your help. I called a dealership, and they told me same thing. When I pulled out radio, the code was written on back of radio it works"

What is the radio unlock code for a 1996 BMW 328i?

If you cannot find the code written on something in the glove box, you will have to remove the radio. Once removed, you will need the serial number off of the radio chassis. You can call BMW with this number and they will give you the code.

Hope this helps!

Looking at the fuze box in a 1996 BMW 328i, the drivers seat adjustment fuse is #40. Where is the #40 fuze located?

Fuse box should look like the one shown on these pages:

Fuse box diagram BMW 3 E36
http://bmw-e36.com/repair/8-bmw-e36-fuse-box-diagram-318i-1996.html

The longer single row of fuses is #31-46 (46 is closest to the double row of fuses).

Hope this helps!

1996 BMW 328i Low beams, highbeams, radio, not working.

I don't know where exactly in you car they are but they are on the drivers side. Check in the kick panel on the bottom or on the dash, there should be some cover you can remove. It should say fuses or something. On the cover it'll let you know which fuse is which. If the fuses are good is most likely blown headlights. But its unusual for all to go out at the same time. Sounds like you may have a short-circuit. And yes you can just change them out.
