I put it in reverse and it acts like its in neutral. Took it to the repair shop and they said new ******. paid 4K. One week later, same thing happened. Now I find out that the gear shift solenoids could be the problem and I want to know if they have to dismantle the ****** to replace the solenoids. If not, then they have just ripped 4K off of me. Please tell me.
Sound like a n electrical issue, and no you didnt get ripped off...take it back to them and tell them to correct the issue....where you did get ripped off was paying that much for the rebuild...Our shop would have only charged you $2200.00 complete

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

you cannot use a trans from a 98...and also, i recommend replaceing the torque converter as well with the next trans u install...also, the trans u put in may have been bad as well..i suggest u replace this next one with a remanufactured trans and torque converter...here in california, there is a place called H&A transmissions that rebuild Honda and Acura trans only..they are very good and they usually can get one fairly quick...wherever u get the next one, just get a reman or rebuilt one with a warranty...u dont want to have to do it again...

Did you make sure that the tork converter was all the way forward first if not then you will need to take the transmission back out and make sure that the converter has either automatic trany fluid in it or 184/85 gear oil depending on whether or not you have automatic trasmission or manual fill it up until you can put your finger in it and then rotate converter clock wise and it should slip into place before putting trasmission back into car and if after doing that and you still are having trouble take it to a transmission shop to have them do it for you.

You need to check to resistance of all solenoids of this transmission.
If you are referring to the solenoids on the front lower portion of the transmission, a 10 mm socket with a 3 inch extension and a ratchet will remove the solenoids. you can check them out of the vehicle. if one is out of spec, you must replace both b and c shift solenoid. Note Honda refers to these solenoids as solenoid and solenoid B. One more thing, if you disconnect the battery and take the battery and battery tray out, if is very easy to get to all the solenoids. Make sure you have the security code for the radio, or it may not have full function when powered up. Good Luck
