The car needs to know the bonnet is closed and that is down to a switch that might be integrated into the bonnet catch or mounted on a bracket or ledge so the switch is opened (or closed) when the bonnet is shut.
A faulty switch, a damaged wire or a maladjustment would deprive the car of the knowledge the bonnet is closed and it would assume it is unlatched and switch on the warning light.
Sounds like a wire was not re-installed under the hood. When the alternator or battery were replaced, there are several power wires under the hood that attach to the same power terminal. Look for a RED wire with a large round connector, that is just hanging out in the open air. You need to install it back onto the post that it came off of. good luck.
Check under the hood. Often, there is a small switch that needs to be closed when the hood is shut. This switch sometimes comes loose and when the hood is closed the button is never pushed. Find the magic button and reattach it to it's mount so that the hood will press it when the hood is closed and that should solve the problem. This button works with the alarm system.
The most common issue it low brake fluid in the master cylinder. As the brakes wear down, the brake fluid level drops proportionally. On the side of the master cylinder is a sensor, that measures the fluid level. Open the hood and check the level. If is is anywhere close to the "MIN" line, you may have some brakes that need replaced.
The second issue, and it is more rare, is the park brake cable rusting, and hanging up.
Easy way to check either: When the light comes on, open the hood and unplug the wire going to the sensor on the side of the master cylinder. If the light goes out, your fluid level is the issue.
