A friend of mine has this exact car and reported lots of white smoke coming from the exhaust as well as lots of water, and when she first started it up it sputtered for a few seconds then ran fine. This car has about 88 thousand miles. The local mechanic shop in town already has charged her about $400 and said they have no idea. Personally, I think it might be either water in the block from a blown head gasket, or a cracked head, or a bad oil seal....Any ideas? Thanks

You have a blown Head Gasket, if you have had leaky Valve Stem Seal the color of the smoke would be blue, for the burning oil. Either way it is more beneficial in the long run to pull the Head off and replace both the Head Gasket and install a re-built Head, instead of doing a Band-Aid repair.
Testimonial: "Thanks, I'm also wondering if this has caused the engine to run hot, or if it running hot has caused the blown gasket???"

Why would you install one freeze plug, when water
comes out the exhaust
You have a bad head gasket
If head is bad, you will find that out
when you pull it and have it checked
for cracks,pressure tested etc.
