no year car told at all.
using voltmeter
what is battery voltage at idle.?
not told' 13. to 15vdc is par, if below the alternator is dead or its fuses blown.
if ALT is dead, driving the car , far (30min) will make engine stall and be dead, until battery is jump started or charged.
that lamp comes of a reason, it means
fully load test the battery and test the alternator correctly
check all fuses
scan the OBd2 port with a scan tool for charge system errors.
If the battery is bad,the alternator can in fact refuse to charge it.
intermittent battery cell shorts or opens can do that.
batteries over 7 years are , love to fail.
"it turned on after oil leaked flashy/, "
i am not sure what flashy means.
DId the PS pump fail and leak and squirt PS fluid to some electronics
under the hood, that can be vary bad, if did.
be more clear on PS leaks, leaked to where. ? matters
You have a coolant leak and your car is overheating.
Coolant is a mix of antifreeze and water and tastes "sweet"(WARNING: DO NOT EAT!!). Is your temperature gauge pointing in the "red"(needle pointing to the far right). The temperature guage is on your dash with a thermometer symbol.
After the car has cooled(a few hours) find the source of coolant leak(green fluid). It is most likely a hose or a hole in your radiator(large aluminum box attached to the front of the car behind the grill). Fix the Hose or replace your radiator(depending on location of leak), and refill with proper mix of antifreeze(you can buy premixed coolant at your local auto parts store).
If your having to add transmission fluid and not coolant, then the water pump is ok, fill with transmission fluid look under truck, if fluid is coming out of between engine and transmission housing, then bad front transmission seal.
All BMW V8 motor have leak oil problem on bad gasket in valve cover. When remove plastic cover where is "BMW" in to camshaft &valve cover, its leak visible where is ignition coil on sparkplugs.
It sounds to me like neither the battery nor the alternator is the problem. The first thing to check is the wire connections at the starter, a starter solenoid if one is used and the battery. Dead alternators never charge the battery and a car with a dead alternator will not ever start without a jump or a charge. A dying starter, if it turns over at all will draw so much current that it will kill the battery in a couple of starts. A final note - many auto parts stores can check the condition of the entire battery - charging - starting system without taking anything off the car and they will do it for free. I would check for loose wires first.
At a dealership, sure.
But if you take it anywhere else, the bill should be more like $300. And if you get a salvage yard radiator, you can spend less then $150.
It is a 30 minute job.
try this, put the key in the drivers side door then turn the key to open position as th same time lift up the door handle . if this does not work then jack up the car , and with jumper cables hooked them to the starter--red to solinod of starter and the ground to any good ground.then hook the other end to another vehicle.keep in mind all the safety precautions! Then try the door with the key in normal operation.Your battwery is dead.!
you have a leaking water pump... there is a "weep" hole at the bottom of it and when the inner seal goes bad it starts slowly leaking out of it as a warning sign to replace it. It will do that for a few days, or months even, until it starts leaking profusely.
