Battery and brake light on

Lately, my brake and battery light have been coming on and off. It goes on when I turn on the car and then once I start driving they go off. At times it just starts flickering on and off. There are times it doesn't come on at all then all of sudden reappear. I recently changed the alternator in September and I just put a new battery in it last week. Also, when I turn on the car to warm it up it makes this loud strange noise for about a second then goes away. Is this normal? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated it.

When the brake light and battery light come on at the same time on a Nissan, it is most likely the alternator. Perhaps you got a faulty alternator or it has failed already. Another possibility is a bad connection from alt. to batt.

You do need an alternator. Nissan has a campaign on Maxima alternator in certain years such as 96-98 I believe. Go to your friendly Nissan dealer abd have them punch your VIN number into the NNA net. they will know and that will tell them if your vehicle applies by the VIN. I have seen the alternator on fire. There was fire inside of the alternator. Have it checked or the car can catch on fire.

SOURCE: electrical short

Your problem is pointing to the alternator. Since you say the alternator is only a year old, the I would check the tension on the belt (deflection should be about 1/2 an inch), and the belt itself. Your problem most likely lies in either the belt, belt tensioner (if applicable), or alternator.

make sure the battery cables are clean and very tight. if it's starting once you move the cables it sounds like they are loose or maybe have a break in the cable line itself

The fact that you've blown 2 fuses unrelated is odd. Have you been in a accident in the front lately? The most of the cars lately don't have a voltage regulator, it's in the ECM. So what goes on when the ign. fuse blows? Is there a different fuse for the ECM?

Most likely there is a short in the wiring for your brake lights. Modern automotive electrical systems are very complex, if you're not experienced with automotive or electrical repair it may be best to take the car to a reputable repair shop. Parts stores can not diagnose or repair this type of problem.

Battery light still on after changing alternater and battery

The battery light goes 2 ways, one is showing the battery taking a charge because the battery was drained, and 2, the battery is not taking a charge and will be dead in 20 mins. I should say the charge light. So, now that you have replaced the battery and the alternator, I would assume there is something else wrong. Your battery might be charging up. Your new battery might be dead.
Check out all the fuses, you will probably find one blown that has nothing to do with it but it causes the light to come on. I went nuts once(?) when my brake light on the dash came on, I had brakes, but couldn't find anything wrong, I checked everything, went as far as making an app with a mechanic to check out my brakes, on my way to the shop, a guy pulls up along side of me and says my brake lights are out. Duh, popped in the fuse and went back home. So, check it out. Hope this helps.

Try a day time running light modual, these things are notorious for messing up,and since they are supposed to work when the car is charging it seems like the logical solution.

My brake lights stay on on my Toyota and the

Try pulling your brake pedal up and see if that causes the brake lights to turn off. The problem is most likely a bad brake switch that fits up under your dash and is attached to your pedal, it may not be releasing right and causing your lights to stay on. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes and I will see if I can help some more if needed...

05 Altima, brake light and battery light on

You may need an alternator.Once battery voltage goes low enough the brake warning light can come on warning you the battery voltage is too low for the brake system to work properly. The bat light is warning you there is a problem with the charging circuit, most likely the alternator.

Battery discharge intermittently with brake light coming on too

Check all wiring connections to alternator and battery to insure all are good, if ok it will most likely need an alternator.
