SOURCE: Cause of noise in front differential of 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback.

there is a plug on the shaft-side of the differential. Using a ratchet remove the plug and with the engine OFF, stick your finger inside the hole and you should get fluid just below the threads of where the plug goes in.

You should have a fuse & a relay. Check # 11 fuse it should be 15 amp.& may be for your fuel pump. Do you have owners manual by chance, or does cover of fuses have label?

SOURCE: 1997 subaru legacy 2.5 emission code P0170 fuel

If I am correct the po170 code is a lean condition. Usually this is caused by a cracked air duct leading to the air filter. Or the air filter box is not secured properly. I work in the service department at subaru and when we do big services we dont get the air box on right and customers return with a check engine light with the same code and we always find that the air box is not secured. This does not mean this is the issue, for a fuel trim code could be other issues, but I would definately look at this first before getting into a/f sensors, converters and all those other expensove items.

SOURCE: replacing a fuel pump on a subaru legacy.

These are nice as there is a removable cover/ port in the rear trunk on these models. This eliminates the need to drop the tank. This access plate gives you direct access to the pump/sender unit in the fuel tanks top side.

2004 Subaru Legacy 35th anniversary edition. Where is the fuel pump relay reset button for it.

Question edited for clarity and correct spelling of maker.
Question moved to model category.

Relays don't have a reset button, they are just an electro mechanical switch. Subaru don't have inertia cut off switches.

Help in the link, but it sounds like you need an auto electrician even though you give no clue what is wrong with the vehicle.

Hi,
if there is no power coming out from the relay, that will be the problem. as you said it is new, check it manually by connecting the terminal into the power source and check the continuity of the the output from the source.
Sometimes there is new parts that has a manufacturer defect. try another relay.

Hope that helps you out!

Trying to change the fuel pump on a 1997 Subaru Legacy Wagon? Will I have to drop the tank? Any additional instructions would be much appreciated! Thank You!

The fuel pump is located behind the rear seat on the passenger side. Remove the upholstery cover to expose the metal oval cover which will expose the fuel pump. D/C the neg terminal and the electrical connector. Remove the nuts to release the fuel pump from the tank. Only now you can release the fuel hoses. Reverse the procedure to reinstall the new fuel pump.

My subaru 1997 wont start no fuel going in the engine o energy for fuel pump i think is my fuel relay but i dont know the location of it and i need to know the location of the computer

first check fuel pressure, guages sold at local auto store run $30-$50.. but it is a quick hook up and sorts out alot of maybe'sss.

if in fact there is no pressure you are likely correct in looking at a relay or the pump itself.. relay should be labelled with all the other in hood compartment..

whereas, the fuel pump is likely in the tank, so drop the tank, and replace.. they go for about $100 for a rebuilt.. don't forget to also change the fuel filter.. Subaru put the filter easily located in engine compartment.

Good luck
