DETERMIN IF YOUR PROBLEM IS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING .1.ELECTRICAL
2.FUEL RELATED OR 3. MECHANICAL.

PERORM A COMPRESSION CHECK TO ENSURE THE COMPRESSION IS GOOD .IF THE COMPRESSION IS IN ALL CYLINDERS PROCEED TO CHECK FUEL SYSTEM .REMOVE THE FUEL INJECTORS AND EXAMIN THE INJECTOR TIP FOR CARBON DEPSITS .CHECH FUEL SPRAY PATTERN ,ENSURE INJECTORS ARE ACTUALLY SPRAYING . THEN PROCEED TO EXAMIN THA SPARK PLUGS .LOOK FOR DISCOLOURATION OF SPARK PLUG ELECTRODES OR CARBON DEPOSITS. IN DIAGNOSING PROBLEMS ONE HAS TO SYSTEMATIC OR ELSE YOU WOULD BE WASTING MONEY AND TIME PURCHASING AND REPLACING COMPONENTS WHICH ARE NOT DEFECTIVE . GOOD LUCK .

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
I know the elm327 plastic 1.4 can help you reset the code....
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Number 2 cylinder is misfiring

If you have done all of that,it may be time to have the compression checked.

I have a 1996 nissan sunny fuel injected ... i have changed the plugs, injector rail, distributer, throttle body, and my engine is still misfiring can some one advise me please..

inspect the wiring for loose connections or bad wiring.

try adjusting first the distributor by turning it. It should adjust the timing. Other than that inspect the timing on the timing chain or the chain may have developed a slack.

My Sentra is overheating. I changed the Thermostat before taking it to the local Autozone and have the check engine light checked out. Well I was told there after scanning the computer that it is a MISFIRE...

First step is new plugs. It's possible that you have a fouled #1 plug. If that doesn't work, check spark wires (if the car is so equipped) or if it has direct coil-on-plug ignition, where each cylinder has a coil pack on top of the plug, swap the coil packs between cylinders 1 and 2. Clear the code, run the car, and rescan the computer. If the code moves to indicate cylinder 2 misfiring, then your coil pack needs to be replaced.

What parts do i need to do a tune-up mechanic says i have codes that read misfire on number 1 and mass air flow

you will need spark plugs, ignition wires, cap and rotor. you may also need air filter, there's no fuel filter in this one.
if the number 1 cylinder miss fire then more likely that wire is bad.
just do the tune up first, then check on the MAF sensor later. the tune up may fix every thing

It is missing when i first start it and check

Hi:
It seems that your intermittent problem could be a cheap fix,and you can try a few things that might fix or eliminate the problem. Since the code pointed to the #1 cylinder misfire, You could change out your spark plugs and spark plug wires as a possible cause. If it doesn't fix it, they were 5-6 years old, and a new set isn't a bad investment. If the problem persists, then you are looking at a ignition coil, coil pack, distributor cap/ rotor, depending on your particular engine. Often if you have an ignition module failing, it will affect all cylinders misfiring, often randomly , so once you change your plugs and wires, have someone clear the check engine light, so if it comes back on ,you can check to see what the new code problem is...I hope you get a cheap fix!

1991 sentra 2dr 1.6 L rough idle in park and in drive at stop

Sounds like misfire. Change spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor , fuel and air filters. Check for oil in spark plug holes. if oil found change valve cover gasket spark plug orings. they can leak oil into spark plug holes and cause misfire.
