I have had numerous problems with the computers in my 2001 Volvo V70 wagon. A volvo dealer analysis indicates my info module, ABS module, and Alarm Siren Module are all bad and the anaylsis suggests

Mechanically the following problems come and go creating a high level of frustration. Loss of engine power, switch in to "limp home status, both speedometer and rpm gauge have gone dead then come back (sometimes immediately, sometimes after the engine is turned off and then back on again, transmission noise followed by a message in the message window the says transmission mal function, when on interstate at 60mph+ the car will sometimes lose engine power and the gauges drop off to zero and then the engine will return to "normal"??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go with the dealer diagnostics, if they don't fix the problems the rest of the repair is free.

SOURCE: 2001 Volvo V70-T5 fuel guage malfunction

I had a similar issue and started to notice other electrical failures along with the gas gauge. My rear doors would not lock and my rear wiper stopped working. I started pulling fuses and relays to see if this would reset, no go. But then I hit the jackjpot. In the rear electrical panel, below all the fuses and relays is a 2" x 2" black plastic square with a big screw in it.

Remove the screw and pull evenly on the black square. This seems to be a major electrical hub for the car. I reconnected and all 3 of my issues disappeared...I read somewhere that a fix might be to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, which I guess re-sets some relays and circuits, but I guess this did the same thing. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2004 volvo s60 computer says there are multiple

I have the same problem with my S60. I have since found that some of the problems is caused by the accelerator pedal sending confusing signals to the ECU. I am in the process of replacing the pedal and rheostat assembly to see what improvement there is.
I recently spoke to the only technician that seems to know about this problem. When I told him about the gauges dropping and in my car the headlights come on and I cannot open the windows he immediately knew what the problem was. He asked my if I fitted a bluetooth device to the car, which I have. I fitted a bluetooth car kit some time ago. He said he had the same problem with another car and after removing the car kit the problem was solved. I have done a lot of research on this problem and you are welcome to contact me for more information at [email protected]

By the way, if you press the trip meter reset button the gauges will come alive again

Ok, there could be a number of things that are going wrong or one big problem with some vital harness wiring.
You should check the vehicle speeds sensors which are on the wheel hubs, and transmission input and output speed sensors. (can really only be done at a dealership). After it looses its sensor inputs it will shut down into safety mode.
But if its ever been in an accident or just lost some electrical connections deep in the harness, it might take you weeks of wire testing to find the problem. if that's the case, sad to say, start looking for a new car

SOURCE: 2004 volvo s60. need help asap

I thought I was going to be a Volvo for life kind of customer until experiencing electric problems with all my Volvos.. This is my second Volvo and was looking to buy a new one next year but changed my mind after my Volvo S60 2004 had the same computer/software/electric problem with the SRS-Airbag urgent/error message. Twice while driving in hot weather the car's dashboard indicators turn off, the car still drives but needs more power. I turn it off and on and everything is back to normal with the SRS-airbag message on. My solution is to buy a different brand of car next time, Volvo cars are really bad with the electrical system.

2001 volvo v70 error code p1604 Cannot drive over 25mph. When the code is cleared runs fine for 20-40 miles then reverts to problem. I found a code match for internal throttle signal but not sure what...

if you look that up on a normal OBD code its listed as P1604 Code Word Unregestered However for a volvo thats a code for Control Module Self Test, Speed Monitoring which would indicate the ECM or a wiring problem ( usually just a loose connection,, so check the connections on the ECM, which you can have scanned by the dealer, Volvo codes vary from the normal coding on most cars, so be careful when getting codes and their meanings

The ABS system should be scanned to check where the problem is, however, the most common problem is in the control unit.

There are 4 codes I need to know about P0810, P1132, P1618, and P1633, 2001 Volvo V-70 24T

810 neutral check, incorrect connection
  • Check the transmission and control module connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent faults
  • 1132 front o2 sensor signal too high
1618 dtc is in another module
Volvo does not provide information regarding DTC P1633 for many of their models.
However, it has been reported that various Volvo engine control modules will produce this code. The code is associated with a missing or inaccurate vehicle speed signal from the ABS control module and may be accompanied by DTC P0722 or P1618.

    Possible causes:
    - Defective vehicle speed signal to the ABS control module
    - CAN connection problem
    - Defective ABS control module
    - Defective engine control module

Manufacture codes associated with this P code may include ECM-510f, 530d.

You have an engine misfire....unless you have expertise in this area you need to see your local shop as you will damage your catalytic converter if you continue to drive. An OBD II scan tool will id the cylinder to help but knowledge here is key!!
