There is no timming to set it is done by crank position sensor check ignition coils if they have rust they will cause missfire.also check plugs and wires with water .if gets worse with water on them and you see sparks need to replace.

How to set the timing on the e430

TDC mark , line up mark on pulley on crank shaft with mark on timing cover housing. a mark on the cam shaft gear should line up with a mark on the head most times at 12 o'clock, If you can't find the marks rotate the camshaft till the valves on the rear cylinder just start to rock that will show where the marks are . the crank shaft may have to be moved slightly to turn the camshaft do this by hand as a valve may touch a piston

How do i set timing chian marks

The marks are on the crank and cam gears. They either have a mark on the head that coincides with the mark on the cam gear AND you set that AND then bring the crank shaft gear to TDC on the timing marks OR you have both marks on the gears and you line them up with each other using a straight edge through the center of the shafts, then you put the chain on.

Timing chain marks needed for Audi A4 B9 1.8tfsi 2009 model. Engine was taken out and settings not marked. This is extremelyurgent. Please help

diagrams I have show a twin cam set up with 2 balancing shafts. The marks on the cam shaft point to (left cam shaft 11 oclock the mark on the right point to the 1 oclock position. The chain will have 3 black links-- the top black links will be at the timing marks on the shafts with the 3rd black link directly at 6 oclock facing a mark on the gear. The balancer marks both point to the 1 oclock position with black links on each and the 3rd black link will be facing a mark to the 7 oclock position on the crankahaft gear. Everything is done with the piston at TDC no 1 cylinder so get it there before you put the cam shafts in position or you will bend valves. Crank shaft gear is not keyed to the crank shaft. there are dots on the right hand balancer shaft gears and these dots will be as the 2 dots on adjacent teeth either side of a dot on the meshing gear. I suppose that is all as clear as mud but if you got this far then you will see the marks and marked links on the chains

Had to change water pump, had to take off timing belt off,now it won't quit missing do you know for the timing belt, how it suppose to be set

I would definitely recommend not to start the engine if you have the least suspicion that your valve cam is not turning in accordance with the crank shaft. You might as well get a valve hitting the piston and then...GAME OVER.

Most japan made cars, including GEO, ( in other areas of the world called suzuki vitara) you must have noticed a plastic cover on the crank shaft. There should be some marks on it. You must twist your shaft to fit that marks, ( usually the longest one or the zero marked) and bring your valve shaft at the marks mentioned at the sides of you cam gears ( the ones that get motion by the timing belt). Most manufactures have arrows indicating the exhaust side of the engine.
Now if yours is the one with OHC, ( single overhead cam) the gear should be marked to point right up.

I can tell you more if I know the type of your engine...

Setting the timing in a 1993 subaru justy

If you are talking of the rubber timing belt setting then rotate the cam gear till the timing mark (small hole) on the camshaft gear aligns with the mark on the plastic cover behind it. Mark is on top of plastic cover (12 'o' clock).
Rotate the crank till the timing mark (groove, not the one for the crankshaft woodruff key) on crankshaft gear is aligned with the mark on the bottom of the plastic cover behind it. (6 'o' clock).
Tighten tensioner against timing belt rotate engine a few times make sure alignment of timing marks remain.
