1986 olds 88 trans slipping - Cars & Trucks

There are many causes for this symptom.
Main suspects include:
worn out transmission
old fluid needs changed
valve body is dirty or clogged transmission filter
worn transmission or engine mounts
wrong transmission fluid added at top-up
shift solenoid broken

Once a transmission slips-- it is done

Time for a rebuild

THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION

It slips,it has done that for awhile,that is an
internally worn out trans

1986-- I would get rid of it

You never install a used trans & $2,500 for a reman
or rebuild, makes no sense.

The whine is a worn out pump or stuck pump valves

Transmission gear assembly and transmission needs inspection. Also check the transmission fluid level. Also is the fluid getting leaked or its low.

ive got the same car spray wd40 around rubber area then take pliers ziggling tube back and forth in all directions it will giggle out

check to see if crank sensor got damage

You can use it as long as it works but bear in mind that it is going to affect your fuel mileage. The more it slips the more fuel you are going to waste. If it's not slipping too bad you could try an additive like Lucas. I have used it myself and found it helped prolong the useable life on an old trans but at some point you are going to have to replace or rebuild that transmission. Hope this helps.

u can go with 88 to 91 440t4 or 4t60 transmission just watch the 91 some computer controlled fieroaddiction.com has info on swaps hope this helps oh pre 88 trans have some failure probs so stay away

3speed or 4 speed? does it slip or just not shift. Might be old seals or a bad governor. Try using lubegard trans additive. Try that for a week if it doesn't work, replace the governor valve.
