VW Passat 08 plate Fault Coad P0299 and P2196

Hello i have 2 fault codes P0299 and P2196 pleas help as i need the car to be fixed for a carer who is a friend of the family. thank you

P2196 O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Rich P0299 Turbocharger Under boost. This to me sounds like a common case of vacuum leak particularly to the turbo waste gate. This is causing it not to provide as much boost, which in turn could be causing the engine to run rich. Check for leaking vacuumn hoses.

What seems to be the problem with the car, other than the codes?

the faults only appear when going uphill i then lose power but the turbo does work as i can feel it kick in

  • Ty St Nov 24, 2012

Yeah, definitely sounds like a vacuum leak. I would check all the hoses and on a turbo model especially make sure the tubes are clamped down. Boost can some times cause them to blowoff under the pressure, particularly if you've' modified the boost controller to a higher pressure.

My 2006 2.0 tdi passat keeps going in limp mode and saying emissions workshop. Can anybody help

hi mate, my 55 plate passat did the same before major problems happened. first turbo went then the oil pressure light came on and the car went into limp mode. before its too late for you and a costly bill can you do the following.
check if your car has a recall for the injector problems which vw are replacing under warenty.
second thing the guy who repaired my turbo told me that these cares have a major fault which caused the turbo to go. the fault is the oil pump failure you must adress this issue as you can get a lot of info on the discussion forms.
my car started with the same problem as you have described the pd engines have a design fault with the oil pump and shaft. this is common causing your turbo to go then the car will start showing oil pressure low please stop engine. educate your self via the forms and act quickly befor you end up with massive bills.
i hope this has helped. trust me vw know about this design fault.you need to change your chain driven oil pump to the new gear driven system which vw have modified. all vag cars have the same problems be it audi skoda vw . my car had the same problem as you have said .started off with emissions then turbo failed thats when i started to investigate this problem . the pd engines was designed by some rookie at vw.

Heaters broken in my 99 plate passat no air comin out at all how to fix this?

Hi

I had this issue with my Audi A4 the 2 cars are very similar and use a lot of the same parts. I had this fault on and off some days it worked other days it did not then it just stopped working. I finally found that the fuse for the blowers had melted, I have since came across this fault on 3 other cars both VW and Audi.

I suspect this will be the cause so worth a look before spending any money.

Hope this helps

I have a 2006 VW passat and electronic power steering

If you put it on a code reader it will likely say this, 44-Steering Assist -- Status: Malfunction 0010 if you delete the code it may get it working, if not the sensor is inside the steering rack so would need another rack, Jacking it up may have just upset the sensor so clearing the fault code may work...

VW Passat STOP brake fault warning

Check the fluid level in the resevoir. If it is low then top it up. However, it went low for a reason - maybe it's just because your brake pads starting to wear out or you could possibly have a brake fluid leak.

If your in any doubt have a pro check it out.
