I have only had the car 3 months and it has 2 problems I am trying to find and correct. The first one is a bumping or knocking noise under the car, it seems to be in the front of the car. I took it to a shop and they replaced the front strut insulators, and lubricated the front stabelizer link bar bushings, however the problem is still there. The second problem is that the Service Engine Soon light keeps coming on. The shop says the code says that the transmission shift solenoid is setting the light and wants $3,100 to overhaul the transmission and replace the solenoid. Research on line say the PCM might be bad as an alternative. Any suggestions?
If the steering and suspension parts are OK, could be a lot of things such as loose parts around the engine (e.g. battery tie-down, bumper cover, etc.).
Unfortunately, if a shift solenoid is an issue, the shop is correct and just the start of problems with the transmission. These transmissions are pretty rugged, but they have to be serviced every 80K miles or so or this will happen.

SOURCE: 2003 differential whine/noise
The last time I had a hum coming out of the area of the differential it was an inside axle bearing going bad. In my case there were four bearings (one on each end of each axle). It was a Toyota. We changed one bearing after listening very carefully and guessed right. I don't know if Cadillac is built similar in this regard but I'm thinking it may be. It was a speed sensitive hum sound like you describe.

Sound like you have a bad cv "constant velocity joint " REPLACE.
The first thing you need to do is to clear your old codes then drive
and see if they come back .
1. Re-enter back into the climate control panel and after all the codes display the display will stop at PCM?
2. Push and release the FAN UP (^) button on the climate control panel and you will see PCM DATA?
3. Keep pushing and releasing the FAN DOWN (v) button until you see PCM CLEAR CODES?

Anytime I get a too lean DTC I first change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in awhile. You'd be surprised how many times this has helped.
Good Luck with it.

I have a 88 and mine done the same thing. I recently had the central power supply rebuilt at a shop in Minnesota and the problem is fixed. After driving the car for 2 years with no working gauges, lights or heat. I now have lights, heat and air!!! I now love my caddy!
