It can be faulty starter or there is loose connection from battery to starter. The starter assembly gets power from battery.Check voltages at starter wires and see if you are getting 12 volts or not.If not then its no power issue due to low battery volt or no connection between battery to starter.

My car started this afternoon. I turned it off. About 5 minutes later I tried to start it again, but there was no sound. The lights come on, The battery is good. there is no sound (starter) at all

It is possible that there is no power to the starter motor.
So check from the following:
1. There must be power to the starter solenoid , use a multimeter to test.
2. If there is no power to the solenoid when the key is turned then the key switch is faulty.
3. Check if this is a diesel vehicle that the HEATER TIMER works and then allows power to the starter as the starter works only after the timer allows the heater to work.
4. if the solenoid works then the power at the starter must be checked, if not the solenoid is faulty.
5. finally if there is power to the starter motor but does not turn , it can be a jammed pinion, a faulty brush or a commutator. Replace starter motor if a cleaning wont help.

N0 crank bat volt good at starter switch output good to to ews (electronic driveway protection control unit)but no output. Is thire a reset.

there is a rolling code that goes between the key and ews module. Aligning the ews and the key sometimes fixes the problem. (performed with bmw diagnostic equipment)Usually keys will fail over time due to the fact of how they are treated. If you have battery voltage at the largest post on the starter. I would check to see if while holding the key in the start position if there is voltage at the second largest post on the starter. this is the starter enable wire. if you see voltage on that wire then the ews system is working properly and the starter needs replacement. i would also try using a spare key, if you have one, to see if that fixes the problem
