1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee running very loud.

My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee is running very loud, especially when I accelerate. It sounds like its coming from underneath in the exhaust system which was replaced a year ago. Could carbon build-up in engine contribute to this problem?
I change the oil regularly with pure synthetic. Please help me.

Does it have the 4.0L motor ? if so open the hood stand off to the side where the exhaust bots to the head and have some one rev it up quick if its coming fron under the hood by the engine the exhaust manifol is cracked. The 4.0L jeeps have had lots of problems with this.

An unfortunate common problem . Live with it or expect to pay big bucks for a replacement plus labor .

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee loud grinding sound when braking

It would be hard to guess at you electrical problems but get your brakes checked. It sounds like your pads have worn down to metal on metal.Very dangerous and can get expensive to fix the longer you leave it.A visual inspection can tell within minutes if this is the problem. If this isn't the problem the 2nd most common thing is a loose brake caliper or caliper mount.A friend with some mechanical knowledge will be able to check the brake pad thickness very easily and quickly with just a torch.Hope this helps

Runs rough on acceleration and surges when removing foot from accelerator. Also, has poor gas mileage. The vehicle is a 1998 Grand Cherokee with 5.2, automatic with four wheel drive.

This sounds like one of two things. Depending heavily on your vehicles milage, you could need a new EGR valve or a new timing chain/belt. Thank you, Dana

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Runs Rough

It sounds like a few different things or a combination of more than one.

  1. The EGR valve
  2. The catalytic converter
  3. The mass airflow sensor

I would assume that there is something wrong with your exhaust again. Most likely its the exhuast donut gaskit that goes to the cat converter.
