The starter needs replaced I've had to jump start it a couple of times in same time period. It also backfired when I gunned the engine at a stop light. I see smoke or heavy emissions when it's acting up. Gas milage is not good for how it was just last week.
SOURCE: jumped timing?
It really does sound like the timing went out of whack. The timing belt should be replaced periodically, according to your owner's manual. It may have worn and stretched just enough to slip over a cog a bit. Remove the timing belt covers and check the alignment of your cam and crank. There should be subtle marks on the cogs and the rear cover or casting. The compression will be good during a cranking test, but will not be ok during a running compression check. Replace the timing belt and check the pulleys. If your timing belt did not slip, the timing chain tensioner or guide shoes may be worn and will require replacement.

Check and replace fuel filter, also check your fuel pump pressure when the car is warm.
SOURCE: 1998 Grand Prix ...Last week I got gas when
If I'm understanding you correctly, you believe you got contaminated gas from a station where they had recent work done on their tanks. If that's so, Now that you've run most of the gas out I would start by changing the fuel filter then fill the tank with good gas (I might even go up on grade for this tank). Although it's unlikely you may have gotten a fair amount of dirt or water, you may want to try adding some dry gas in case there is still water in the bottom of your tank.
If the new filter seems to clear the problem but it come back after a short while you'll need to take the tank off and flush it. If you do it yourself don't dump the gas on the ground. If you have to flush your tank you'll need to flush the gas lines and replace the fuel filter again.
Testimonial: "Thank you. no, my car didnt have work done at station I got gas from, but I did have a lot work done a month ago elsewhere. I will have my son change the fuel filter. Hopefully that works, and hope the tank doesn't have to be removed to be drained. "
SOURCE: Pontiac starting problem
Need a little clarification to help. When you say the starter would not engage, do you mean it made no noise and didn't spin? I assume this is what you are talking about. Can be a few items. It may be the neutral safety switch (or clutch switch if manual transmission), wiring or the starter. Probably the starter has a dead spot and needs to be replaced. You can try and tap the side of the starter with a hammer and see if that works (if it does replace the starter) Modern starters come with the solenoid attached. Hope that helps. Can help more with a lttile more info.

Did you do anything to repair the mas air flow sensor code or did it go out by itself? If you did not replace it or clean it you should get some mass air flow sensor cleaner and clean it out.You can get this at most part stores. If you are getting this code then you need to repair this problem. This will cause the car to loose power and it can be intermittent.Hope this helps.Good luck.Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I buy my gas from the same station everytime mostly. They haven't worked on their tanks that I know of. The car also is now at a half tank when I filled it it ran fine up until about the 3/4 mark.
It also runs fine for a few minutes then goes back to running poor. When the check engine light comes on I have restored power then it goes out and i little bit later starts bogging down again.
