Engine cuts out , dash light shape of an engine lights up leave a few minutes engine fires up runs a few minutes then cuts out again.

Mate I use to drive a freightliner and it cut out on me one day, I eventually got it started but cut out again after about 5 minutes, I rang a mechanic to come out and he found a heat sensor wire came off the radiator and that caused the motor to cut out... Hope I haven't wasted your time.......

The light and the word stop should be sending you a clear message . The engine hard starting and sluggish is also sending a message and if you do not heed the message and have the fault codes read and the problem fixed then the next message may be replace the engine or gear box . The light is there --not to be an annoyance ---but to inform you that something drastic is going wrong and it needs urgent attention.

If your check engine light is on get it scanned. If not pull the camshaft sensor and make sure the magnet is still in place on the cam shaft. You might need to crank it once or twice to turn the camshaft.

Right try this ,disconnect the battery and join the leads together and leave for a while ,say 20 mins then try again but leave the mobile phone turned off and keep it away from the centre consol .The mobile phone signal can and does interfere with the electronics on this model ,long story but it does

The warning lights on the dash will come on when the engine dies.
If it dies and starts up like you turned the key it could be a relay or other electrical problem. May be tough to find if you can't test components while it is not starting.
I assume the check engine light is not on when the engine is running.

I heave the same problem on my Corsa B 1.0 2000, engine cuts out, and whe it happens, I hear one of the relay under the right side of the dash buzzing. After a couple of minutes, starts like nothing happend.
So far I manage to find that the speed sensor is faulty, when I tap him the car stops. I order a brand new one, but I'm not sure that was the issue.
I order also a Opel Tech2 tester from ebay and it has to arrive next week, then I can see the error code.

Here is what you do. make sure the battery is fully charged cause you dont want it to go dead during this process or it wont work. step down on your parking brake pedal and leave it down. this will keep the headlights off during the process so the battery wont go dead. turn the ignition key like you were going to start the car then leave the key in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. during the ten minutes you will see the anti theft or security light flashing or the display in the instrument cluster. when the ten minutes are up the security light will go out. once the light goes out attempt to start the car. if it doesnt start turn the key all the way back to the off position count to three then attempt to start the car then leave the key in the on position another ten minutes till the light stops flashing again. sometimes it takes up to three ten minute cycles to reset the antitheft system. so basically you do the same thing three times leaving the key in the on position for ten minutes each time so it will take approximately thirty minutes. sometimes it will work on the first try though.

check fuel pump pressure. change fuel filter.

I would first check all the wiring harnes multi plugs, if you have one that is loose that would cause an intermient fault and if left to progress could over heat and in extreme circumstances could set on fire, i am not tring to scare you but i have seen this have to various makes of vehicles. the connections could be arcing. if they all seem ok, obviously check the battery conections and the main fuse link that supplies the fuse board, they are usually near the main battery and are quiet say about 20mm long. another sugestion is the ignition switch could be faulty. if you can get the cowling off from around the steering column and get access to the switch, with the engine running give it a wiggle, this will also work for the wiring connections, have the engine running the checking the conections if loose or faulty it should cut the engine out, ONLY DO THIS TO THE 12 VOLT CIRCUIT, DO NT TOUCH THE IGNITION LEADS OR WIRIES UNDER THE BONNET WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNING.
