Have 1998 Malibu will run for about 5 minutes and then just die. i let it set for an hour and it fires up like nothing is wrong but after 3-5 minutes it dies again. The check engine light turns off once started, the theft system light (not blinking) turns off once started. when it won't start i can still hear the fuel pump develope pressure when i turn the key on. is there an electrical component that is shutting down once it reaches a given temp?
Hi
There is a possibility that the baffle in the fuel tank has come loose. The fuel pump has like a reservior that the pump fits in to assure that fuel stays around the pump at all times.
Kindly check it.
Thanks

Hello,
If it is sputtering when it dies, then it is probably fuel related. Given the track record of GM fuel pumps, I wouldn't doubt that you would hear the pump, but it still may not be working properly.
Just out of curiosity, have you checked the fuel filter?
