SOURCE: 1991 mazda b2200- timing belt changed

The keyway and or the dot on the crank should be line at 12 oclock. You will see a point on the oil pump housing to go by. On the camshaft the pointer will be at 12 oclock also. Use the O on the camshaft to the top at mark. Be sure to look at the dist. roter to make sure that it is pointing at the #1 spark plug wire. I could get 180 out of time. If you do it right it should start up right away. then you can use a timing light to finish it.

The number 6 on the distributer is the base timing mark the rotor needs to point at when on TDC.

1988 chevy cheyenne will turn over. but won,t start. the spark plugs fire blue every one. the fuel injectors shoot gas all the way to the pistons . it did run fine and all of a sudden it quit. i have...

Inside or directly under the distribitor cap is a plastic ring with either one or two wires attached..... these devices fail and not allow the engine to start.
It happened on my 88 chevy (305 cu in.). a quick fix is to replace it with a new one.. (Advance Auto) or other parts store.

Balance shaft belt broke, This caused timing belt to jump time Replaced both timing belt and balance belt,Reset timing but found there is no spark at spark plugs Replaced distribitor , But still no spark....

Remove distributor cap temporarily showing the rotor,. Have some one hit the starter switch and crank engine. Observe rotor turning. If not, a gear or coupling on the crank shaft is either stripped or disengaged.

Remove valve cover and see if valves are cycling. If not, camshaft is broken and needs to be replaced. Consider a new short block.

If rotor doesn't turn, there will be no spark.

Distribitor timing

the timing was disturbed while reinstalling dist. or it is not installed in the right position normally you would make a mark that will line up when reinstalling also make sure you don't disturb the position of the place where it goes.
