2001 lincoln ls electrical system shutdown

I have an 2001 Town Car and that happened to me. I checked the fuses listed in book. Sorry but I needed to take to dealer to fix. Hope you get better help.

Well I am a certified mechanic and I would pull the air cleaner housing open the throttle shoot some carb cleaner in it and if it starts even if only for few seconds your fuel pump is bad. If it doesn't than you need to scan the car with a scanner for no start codes. You can rent a scanner at most automotive part stores for a deposit and when you return it undamaged you get your money back. Usually costs nothing. But if you don't have any pressure on the fuel rail that is most likely your problem. You can clear all the dashboard codes and lights with a scanner if they don't straiten it out on its own. Disconnect battery for a few minutes sometimes that will clear old codes. Only clear codes if you have found out that the fuel pump was bad otherwise you'll need them codes for figuring out the no start problem. Bryan ASE master certified mechanic.

1. Insufficient coolant in system
2. Drive belt defective or not adjusted properly
3. Radiator core blocked or grille dirty and restricted
4. Thermostat faulty
5. Cooling fan not functioning
6. Radiator cap not maintaining proper pressure
7. Ignition timing incorrect
8. Defective water pump
9. Improper grade of engine oil
10. Inaccurate temperature gauge

low voltage can cause the type of erratic symptoms you describe.. see if the alternator is putting out 13 to 15 volts with engine running. any autoparts chain will do this for you gratis

I would love to answer this question but I am having the same issue. I have a 2000 LS with the V8..replaced the battery about 2 weeks ago and last night I went to go home and it won't start. All the bells ring when I turn the key but when I turn to the right to "start" position, nothing. No clicking, no noise at all. I called the Lincoln dealership and we went over the alarm light "not flashing" and shifter position. They have no advice other than "tow it in".
The vehicle had been running fine.

Make sure the battery is fully charged first. Now you need to find out if spark to the spark-plugs is present and that the fuel pump is working. Let me know and we'll go from there.

check fuse,located under hood if ok check connections splice the wires tap on battery posts see if it kicks on if not replace fanmake sure temp gauge is working properly

you probably have air trapped in the system. Have dealer or radiator shop bleed system.

I assume your cooling fan is working.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Engine Cooling The cooling system components include the:

• block heater (optional)
• cylinder head temperature sensor
• fan blade, fan motor and fan shroud assembly
• radiator
• pressure relief cap
• degas bottle
• radiator draincock
• water pump
• oil cooler (optional)
• water thermostat

The water thermostat:

• controls the engine coolant temperature.
• allows quicker engine warm-up.

The degas bottle:

• provides a location for system fill.
• contains coolant expansion and system pressurization.
• provides air separation during operation.
• replenishes the engine coolant to the system.

The fan blade draws air through the radiator to help cool the engine coolant.
The fan motor:

• operates only when the engine is running.
• will not operate when the engine is off.

The engine coolant flows:

• from the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
• from the water pump to the engine block and the cylinder heads.

A closed water thermostat returns the engine coolant to the water pump. An open water thermostat allows the engine coolant to flow to the radiator.
Unsatisfactory coolant materials:

• Alcohol-type antifreeze does not provide adequate water pump lubrication.
  • has lower boiling point
  • reduced antifreeze protection
• Alkaline brine solutions will cause serious engine cooling system damage.

The cylinder head temperature sensor provides a signal to the temperature gauge.

• will invoke failsafe cooling.

The optional block heater:

• electrical heating element is installed in the block cooling jacket.
  • uses a standard 110V (220V in Europe) electrical supply
• keeps the engine coolant warm during cold weather.

The auxiliary water pump (3.9L only):

• provides heater coolant flow boost.
• has a secondary function of providing engine-off cooling.

1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12 .

change the drive belt and have the voltage regulator in the back of the alternator checked out and also check for any draws on the car anywhere cause this can cause the alternator to over charge trying to keep the battery charged up
