Your brake master cylinder could be low,if it goes too low, then air will get in and become spongy.

SOURCE: brakes.

remove the rear brake drums and adjust the rear brakes manualy ,dont forget to remove the lip that build up on the outer edge of the brake drum either with a coarse emery or a small disc cutter to rub it down so brakes can be adjusted to max amount inside the drums

Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.

Have you had anyone try to clean and adjust the rear brakes? You will need a shop to scan the van for ABS codes first to cure the ABS light.

SOURCE: Spongy brakes after bleeding them 2 times. Should I try to bleed the master cylinder or replace it?

Honestly your guess is as good as mine. But I don't think the master cylinder is NOT bad you still have air in the system. Get a big bottle of brake fluid bleed all four sides until you run out of fluid or your brakes work properly. You should divide the bottle's content in four, then use each quantity in each side. You'll be removing air and contaminated fluid from the system. Get a small hose that fits on the bleeders and an appropriate container. I have a good feeling if you do this your brakes will work just fine. I don't know how you are bleeding the brakes. I'll let you know the proper way just in case. This is a two man job, with the wheel off, have someone start the car. Have them pump the brakes a few times to get pressure. 1With the brake pedal UP open the bleeder, 2then have your assistant press the brake pedal all the way down and leave it completely pressed down. 3Close the bleeder valve, once close and only with the valve closed have'm release the brake. Repeat as necessary, bake depressed, open valve first then press brake. DO NOT depress until valve completly closed. Close valve THEN depress. Good Luck!

WHATS THE IP LIGHTS INDICATOR MEAN

1dyhedmktaaid_gfzxwu=.medium.jpg
Try the parking brake release. On a car that old you MAY have a sticky parking brake cable that's partly engaged. If this is the case, it would freeze up in place and cause the sending unit for your brake light to turn on/off at random. -they use the same light for brakes and parking brakes- If your brake petal has become less firm or "spongy feeling" recently... then it's an issue with the brakes themselves. Also check your brake fluid level.

Spongy break and empty fluid container

I would strongly recommend you get a mechanic to have a look as this should not happen and breaks are not a toy.
But if you choose not to then you need to bleed the brakes.
This is done with two people.
1 Open the cap on the brake fluid this is called the master cylinder make shore it stays full.
2 Go to the wheel that is furthest from the master cylinder usually rear passenger side.
3 Look at the break assembly from behind the wheel there will be a little thing with a black cap on it or just a nipple funny looking thing with a very small hole at the top with a spot for a small spanner at the base.
4 Find a spanner that fits make shore it is the correct one as you do not want to strip it.
5 Get the other person to press the break pedal for 5 times then they keep their foot pressing and hold.
6 You undo the nut the peddle will go to the floor and break fluid will come out.
7 You then tighten the nut they can let go of the peddle do this 5 times.
Do all the wheels from the furthest one from the master cylinder to the closest.
Let me know how it goes.

Spongy break

The brake system was not bled properly, so you still have air in the lines. The air compresses when you press the brake pedal, making it feel spongy. With no air in the system, the brake fluid does not compress, giving a firm feel.
