I just replaced intake gaskets on a expediation 5.4 and it is leaking in the left corner but I was in question before I reassembled there was a small little crack just inside it leaks just a drip but I have already ordered a new intake from NAPA but check with a salvage yard to see if they have a 3.8 motor when you take it off inspect it good before you install it on yours

1999 windstart upper intake gasket problems maybe?

sounds like an intake leak or a vacuum leak , would start it and spray like carb cleaner or starting fluid on the top of the motor while it is cool not hot and see if you get a rise or fall in rpm,s if it does get a response chase down the vacuum leak, if not it is probally the intake gasket
