97 2.2 sunfire runs fine on modeate to hard acceleration jerks

When I I press ******* the accerator it just jerks bad like it dies then goes then dies then goes.If I dont press ******* the accelertator It seems fine 192k.I put new plugs in no help

my 97 sunfire does the same thing idles fine but when you get on the gas it just jerks and jumps if you push it to the floor just dies what was wrong with yours.

intermittant can restart car goes away.Happens with car warm or cold

Throttle position sensor probably bad.

if it was a throttle position sensor would it put out a code?

All the above problems were happening to my truck, and the engine light never did come on. Finally changed the O2 sensor, and it runs like new again.

Sounds to me like a clogged fuel filter or your fuel pump is going out.....I would check and replace the filter first......

97 sunfire 2.2l, changed fuel pump, now injectors keep squirting fuel after engine is turned off, also floods out and dies after few moments running

fuel pressure regulater or relay is going bad or a fuel return problem check hoses going back were u done repair good luck

I have a 97 grand am gt with 3.1 idles fine but normal acceleration and cruise is nearly impossible. Bogs down at all speeds. Hard acceleration is fine goes good.

I had the same problem with my 89 grand am it was caused by a faulty crank position sensor. Initially it would cut out when accelerating and eventually wouldn't start at all, replaced the sensor runs great again.

White smoke = water or coolant leak

When was the last time you had the timing belt replaced. Just occasionally, worn timing belts can jump a tooth, resulting in retarded ignition and/or retarded valve timing.

My 97 yukon did the same thing (I believe). The valve body in the transmisson wears out (design problem) and causes the transmission to shift really hard. My repair was about $500 (nondealer).
