If you look carefully at the screen, check for signs of discolouration. This could indicate a failed screen unit.

How do I reset the computer after changing the battery in my 2004 mini cooper S? The car started three times. Now it won't start even though all of the other electrics work

Turn off ignition. Press and hold the trip reset button, then turn the ignition on (don't start the engine), within 5 sec the SIA status will be displayed. Release the reset button. Press and hold the trip reset button for 5 sec, "rst" will be displayed. Release and re-press trip reset button.

The new status should be displayed.

Unfortuanatly,

This is a problem will all vehicles eventually. You will have to replace the display, if it bothers you or no longer operable. These typically have to be replaced at the dealer or body shop because they have to recertify your odometer reading. Sorry, I don't have better news.

What does a c on the dic mean?

Your vehicle has a Driver Information Center (DIC).
All messages will appear in the DIC display located
below the speedometer in the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC buttons are located on the instrument panel,
to the left of the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC comes on when the ignition is on. After a short
delay, the DIC will display the information that was
last displayed before the engine was turned off.
The DIC displays trip, fuel, and vehicle system
information, and warning messages if a system problem
is detected. The bottom line of the DIC shows the
shift lever position indicator. See Automatic
Transmission Operation on page 3-23
for more
information.
If your vehicle’s DIC has these features, the compass
direction and the outside air temperature may also
display on the DIC when viewing the trip and fuel
information. The compass direction appears on the top
right corner of the DIC display. The outside air
temperature automatically appears in the bottom right
corner of the DIC display. If there is a problem with the
system that controls the temperature display, the
numbers will be replaced with dashes. If this occurs,
have the vehicle serviced by your dealer/retailer.
The DIC also allows some features to be customized.
See DIC Vehicle Customization on page 4-66 for
more information.

2003 Nissan Maxima SE tachometer clock

Its not a clock its just calculates the time it took to make trip. The display at the bottom of the tachometer area is a "TRIP COMPUTER". It shows OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE, DISTANCE TO EMPTY, AVERAGE FUEL COMSUMPTION, AVERAGE SPEED and JOURNEY TIME. Press the "TRIP" button on the steering wheel to change through the modes. Holding the "TRIP" button for more than one second will reset the mode.

Outside Temperature display

If you do not have the On-board computer (option M659), you can still get the outside temperature display to work. All the electronics of the On-board computer are included in every Boxster (except some early 1997 models did not have the temperature sensor installed), but if you don't order the option, you don't get the stalk on the steering column to choose which feature to display. The On-board computer functionality displays below the digital speedometer readout underneath the tachometer.
To activate the temperature display, you will need the Porsche System Tester 2 computer to tell the car that it possesses the On-board computer, even though it doesn't. Since you probably don't have this $4000 device, but your Porsche service department does, this will require a visit to your dealer. It will take about five minutes of your service department's time, but you should call ahead. Some service departments will charge for the service.
Using the Porsche System Tester 2, follow these steps:
  1. Go under the "instruments" heading
  2. Go to "modify coding"
  3. Specify "with On-Board Computer"
  4. Press the F8 key to commit the changes
