My car is making almost like a belt noise (high pitched squeaking), but I believe it is associated with the power steering because the steering is getting tougher. I wanted to know where the power steering fluid reservoir was located on my 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp? And also, if the power steering is bad or low on fluid can that affect the temperature of the car?
Sounds like belt tensioner may be going . would make sound, & effect anything run by belt including temp.
I had this exact car and I had all the same problems your talking about, The pump although I can't tell you for sure is on the left side of the engine as your looking at it. If it is whining it is because it is low on fluid, also when topping it off fill it to the full mark while it is running. If it is foamy turn the steering wheel all the way left and all the right a few time to help get rid of the air. You may have to let it sit a while to let the bubble escape, check and do this again, it could be a bad pump also. The overheating problem I had with mine was a bad temp sensor for the computer. It has two temp guages and the computer uses on to activate the fan as needed. I also had another problem with mine, on the front of the intake is a small plastic elbow for a heater hose and this goes bad. Had to replace mine. Wasn't hard, and the part was cheap. Hope this helps you!
