Chevy Tahoe stuck in neutral

Hi i have a 1996 chevy tahoe and i need some help with it. I had a problem where the truck was stuck in 4 wheel drive. So i replaced the transfer case and now the truck is stuck in neutral. While the old transfer case was off, i put the car in neutral to take the dash off to replace a switch. Do you think when i shifted it into neutral when the transfer case and everything was off that it could mess it up? Or is their some other problem? The transfer case i got was from a local dismantler. When i switch the car to 4 wheel drive you can hear the electronic switch engage. but the car just rolls. Throughout every gear no matter what i do the car is in neutral. I hope you can help me. thanks

Someone said to check fuse panel. I did all looked good. Another suggestion was to check switches, did'nt understand term, except for plug- ins. Now that the unit is in, those seem pretty hard to acess for testing. With these dismantler parts you don't know always what you are getting, I guess! Now I will pull it out again, should go easier with practice from the first re-install.

Since I am trying over again if you have any advice what to look out for before I drop it in, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks Again, Have a good day....

Service 4 wheel drive on 2004 Chevy Tahoe

The 4X4 system is controlled by a electronic control module . Can set a number of DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . Having the vehicle check for DTC'S would be your best bet ! Not at autozone or advance or any parts stores . They can not pull these code's . Need a factory or professional scanner . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

IF YOUR SHIFTING INTO 4HI or auto mode can do at any time under 35mph. going into 4lo you need to be in neutral stopped usually goes smoother if foot is off brake and it can roll a little same with coming back out into 2wd
