So, the truck cranks but then after a few tries, you hear the clicking? Or do you hear the clicking while the engine is cranking? I've never heard a starter relay cycle (click) at the same time the starter motor is turning.

How was the battery tested? Simply sticking a voltmeter on it and reading 12 volts is not enough. A load test must be done on it to really get an idea.

So, I'm thinking it's a bad connection or no fuel. After several tries to start, the battery will drain to a point where there's not enough juice to turn the engine over (so you get it crank a couple times, then just click, click, click).

First remove, inspect, and clean the battery terminal cables and posts. Make sure they are properly tightened when you put them back. Also, check connections at the starter. There's two distinct 12V connections: one for the starter relay/solenoid and one for the starter motor itself. The ground connection is critical, especially for the motor. Load test the battery (Autozone will do this for you). If all is good, check for fuel delivery problems.

Is the inertia switch activated? Is the fuel pump coming on (you can hear this when you turn the key on, but don't start...it's a humming noise for a second). Fuel pump failure could just mean it's fuse in the power distribution box is blown, the relay that controls the pump has failed, the pump control module is faulty, or the pump is bad. Yes, you can check the fuel filter, but it would have to be completely clogged to prevent fuel flow.

SOURCE: 2005 ford escape, starting problems. The battery

If the battery tests that it is holding a charge and has plenty of volts to otherwise start the vehicle then I would be willing to bet that it is the starter. Try following the red or positive battery cable down to the starter. Have some one turn the key to the start position while you or someone else gently taps on the starter with a hammer to see if it is just stuck. If this does not work, i would take the starter out of the vehicle and take it to a parts store and have it tested before buying a new one.

SOURCE: 87 f250 drained brand new battery

I would first have the alternator checked by an auto electrician to ensure it is working correctly and is providing the correct volume of current. It may be faulty and when driving you will be drawing battery power instead of power from the alternator to run the electrics. This will drain the battery.

Alternators do not last forever and if you are still running the original unit it is likely to be on it's last legs and you will need a replacement unit.

SOURCE: 2004 FORD EXPLORER parked it, 3 hrs later , won't

You are right. Its the key code problem. As per the manual it says:--- sometimes when the battery is disconnected or has to be recharged - this happens. The computer forgets the key code and the key has to be re-coded. The ford service center/dealer charge $35 to $50 for recoding the key and this makes the car to function properly and it starts . ---------------- Also check the code in your car:--- under the plastic-passenger side under the very back window-next to rear passenger door jam-Looks like a black box. The Original Code is on a tag on that box.But if its not there then dealer is other option/.It takes few minutes to get recoded.----------------This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: the car won't start; lights,

Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle

2006 Ford explorer, no lights on dash won't start, no noise at all

In the event that no lights coming on in the dashboard and no other electrical buyers work, the battery could be totally dead or there is no association between the battery and the vehicle electrical framework. Check in the event that the battery terminals look tight. On the off chance that the battery is totally dead, kicking off might help.

Car won't start, Ford Expedition, clicking noise

if the car will jump off doesn't matter what AAA said battery is bad, either terminals are excessively corroded, or battery has a dead cell internally, remove battery and take to a reputable auto parts store or repair shop and have tested, also have load tested it is bad.

1991 ford explorer will not turn over when hot

Have the battery tested and check the battery positive cable for corrosion. Also have a amperage draw test done on the starter motor, it is one of them. If it just clicks but won't start then the starter is defective in most cases. Have it properly diagnosed by a dealer before any parts are replaced to avoid unnecessary parts replacement

Sounds like you might need a new starter. If the lights and radio still come on, then you may need a new battery.

My explorer won't start, It was dead, I charged the battery. got a clicking noise. the battery died again, charged it and let it sit for a couple hours, went to try again, didn't even have to...

if the batter has a drain the starter may be at fault the starter can drain a battery with out running i would unhook the battery cables then charge the battery then i would have the starter tested.
