A leak behind the water pump is usually where the pump meets the engine block. It may require a new gasket, but you will have to remove the timing belt covers to get in there and inspect.

Trust me it is quite an excercise and not worth doing yourself. With the proper tools, a hoist and a my mate who is a Guru Subaru Mech it took 4 hours. Without having done it before and without the Hoist ( which is wha I was going to do initially ) I'd say you wouldn't get much change out of 8 - 12 hours.

Can anyone help. the suspension is down on the front passenger side of my subaru legacy 2.5 gx 2000 model. is it easy to repair? would it fail its mot for this?

it has a compressor to keep the suspension operating, try some dish soap and see if you can see an air leak, bubbles will show wear it is leaking from.

2000 Subaru Outback wont start.. no fuel.

Are your injectors firing into the engine? You can buy a test kit to double check that. Is there spark at the plugs?

I had the same problem sorta with my civic it turns out after doing timing belt water pump, and many gaskets i had a huge vaccum leak.

Also check your fuel lines to see if they are loosing pressure somewhere
