Turns over but will not fire, no coughing, has fuel, intermittent problem

Normally starts every time, twice now it has started then stopped within a second then turned over but no sign of wanting to start, no coughing. If left for awhile and gone back to it started straight away and fine for four days then same problem again.

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Could be the fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself. Owner's manual may show where the relay is located and most parts stores have them. The folks that work there will usually assist with the replacement.

it sounds like the check valve in the fuel pump is letting the fuel bleed back into the tank

SOURCE: 2000 blazer 4.3 hard to start (fuel problem)

Do you have the fuel tester hooked the in the overgrown air valve on the fuel rail in the back of the engine? Or do you have the fuel line unhooked in the back and hooked to the pressure pump? You want the fuel pressure to be in that 60 lb range so if you are hooked into the pressure valve on the fuel rail allowing fuel to go through, then I am betting it is the fuel pressure regulator. To get to that, you have to take the throttle body off and take the plastic plenum that covers the injector packs. On the back of the mount where your six pack of injectors are sits the pressure regulator. If it is faulty then it is dumping fuel instead of holding the pressure like it should.
Get a Chilton or Clymer manual and it shows you in pretty good detail how to fix it. I've done it to my 98 S10 with the same engine.

If you unhooked the fuel line so you are losing pressure from the line back to the pump then I would say your pump is letting fuel back to the tank when it shuts off. My money is on the first possibility though.

Good luck

HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE AND THE STARTER HAS BEEN THE CULPRIT..HAVE NEVER REPLACED A FUEL PUMP ON ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AT ALL

Testimonial: "I replaced the starter. This job is quite substantial. Also found the nut connecting the cable to the starter coil was not tight. I think it is fixed."

SOURCE: My Mazda mx3 starts up idles for a couple seconds then dies.

Before you replace the fuel pump, I would check the cheaiper parts first. Such as fuel filter and injectors.

My Subaru legacy grandwagon has started cutting out at idle speed (intermittently) & also sometimes if you go on a short errand then it wont start when you get back in the car. Engine turns over...

You could have a number of problems. First do a complete tune up, proper timing, new plugs etc.

Turn the key and do not give it gas. If it starts slowly give it gas and let me know what it does. I suspect it will cut out. In that case, you might have bad injectors. Let me know if I can be of further help

These CIS vehicle are tempermental. Best thing to do is change the air filter, clean air flow sensor plate(Spray gunout on a rag and lightly clean it ) Gun out throttle body and a slight idle adjustment. Finallyonce a month put some fuel injection cleaner in the tank. See how this works before we start testing items.

You have to determine if the problem is loss of fuel press or a los of ignition spark when the no start occurs, I suspect the fuel pump.
