Speedometer bounces from current speed down to zero (where it sometimes sticks for miles). This issue started intermittently 10 months ago. It is happening more & more frequently. When I had my car serviced (@ local automotive place... not @ hyundai dealer) I mentioned this issue & asked that they check it. They did not see a problem. Driving the car earlier today, speedometer starts bouncing up (to 130 mph) & I know that I was only doing 65 or 70 mph. Short of taking the car to a dealer (they will charge me a bunch) what can I do to resolve this issue? Thanks!
Find out if it is a cable or electronic. We had a speedo go crazy because of a shorted Alternator. But a binding cable would cause a bounce everytime it "snapped" and whipped up to speed.
Please rate my info,
Sound like worn out speedometer drive gear inside transaxle.

There is a small sensor call VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor).
It feed data from the transmission to the computer ECU.
This can be a two part problem.
1)loose wire
Just check the connector on the transmission and make sure it's tight.
If you not sure which one then just give all connector a little push.
2)bad VSS.
It's not expensive and easy to replace.
Good luck

dear friend-your speed sensor is located at the right side of the engine on the top back of the gearbox, this is a electronic unit and can be at fault.

The vehicle speed sensor is probably faulty. Have it checked. it's mounted on the side of the tranny.

Could be misfire. You need to get a code reader to find out what the trouble codes are. You can then better know what to do next. Spark plugs could be the problem. They are easy to change on the four cylinder, and the V6 is a bit of a chore as the intake plenum needs to be unbolted to change the three rear plugs. Get the codes read! best of luck!
