You could check the viscosity of the oil you are using! Ihave found a 15w/40 diesel oil works well in cleaning out sticky lifters due to its higher detergent content. You could try a good engine flush in engine just prior to oil change. Wynns or STP. another old trick is to add 1/2 ltr or 1 pint of deisel to engine and run for 1/2 hour prior to oil change. I know of a guy got 1,000,000miles out of a 225 slant 6 chrysler engine so it dosnt hurt

you can pull the valve covers and inspect the rocker arms, but you may have a bad main or rod bearing. im leaning toward the main bearing being spun, at least.

SOURCE: My 03 Maxima (3.5l 255 hp) started burning oil at

All cars will lose a certain amount of oil because you cannot seal an engine completely nor do you want to. Oil is lost at the valves, the piston rights and some oil is spread into the intake as blow-by occurs. This is normal to loss a quart of oil within 4,000 miles. However you are using a synthetic oil which is a man made oil and has different charactaristic than regular oil. You will loss more oil using oils like Mobil 1, but that is normal as well.

SOURCE: I have an '02 jeep wrangler. Straight 6, 4.0 L

I have a 94 YJ gave me the same issues and I did all you did and more.
Finely I was told that penzoil has a parfin base which lends it self to the cause. I don't know if it is true or not I'm just a shade tree mech. I switched over to full synthetic and WA-LA It took a couple of changes after a good cleaning but I've been TICK free for a over a year now. since I do my own change it helps hold the cost down. I was also told I needed lifters and a rebuild & all that jazz so I figured that if she was gona die I'd deal with that when it happens so far so good.

SOURCE: I had the valve cover gasket changed on my 1996

on a v6 ? Low on oil? rear cam plugs leaking? The lifters are on the end of the rocker arms and may get clogged. I have had some luck running 0w30 mobil synthetic for about a week or so with a new oil filter [Not a fram filter] and after that put 10w30 synthetic oil back in and a new filter. Check for oil leaking at other locations. If the noise is at the front of engine near water pump it may be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner.

A ticking noise in motor

Usally it's a stuck or colasped lifter. You can check your local parts store for oil additives that may unstick the lifters, often you'll have to replace the lifters. Also check oil level and oil pressure.

Ticking coming from right bank replaced the 2 i thought but still is ticking

You really did not explain at all. What was ticking? It could be injectors, valve lifters, etc.?

If it is fuel injectors, they are supposed to tick.
It is when they don't tick that you worry about them.

If it is valve lifters, then you need to try adjusting them. They may be hydraulic, but still could be beyond the range the oil can account for.

Let us know more, and we can explain more.

A loud ticking noise?

No I would not chase to the pistons, these vehicle were very comon in creating HLA noise hydraulic lash adjusting valves, meaning the valves pump up with oil as the oil gets thinner they dont pump up as fast and create a very loud ticking noise, I would not express a great concern over simplicity, dodge was famous for this, they really were.

Engine noises

Its not a rod this is a common problem its your valves the best thing i have found is to use vavoline maxlife 5/30 high millage oil a can of six cylinder restore and a fram high millage oil filter. you will be amazed at how quick this remedy's your problem . Plus the car will tell you when your with in a thousand miles of oil change when the tick comes back time to do oil change. this will cost you around 30 dollars if you do it your self or 58 art wal mart. and for the other guy he deserves a bad rating. insert rasberry

Ticking under valve cap

You have hydraulic lifters, and they need oil pressure to pump them up. Once sufficient oil pressure builds up (which should only take a couple seconds), the ticking goes away. You might help to alleviate some of the problem by getting a product called Seafoam. Pour half a bottle into the oil, drive for 30-40 miles (no more than that, as it does thin your oil out), and then change the oil and filter. Seafoam can clean crud and sludge out. Some of it may be blocking the oil channels to the lifters, and the Seafoam can clean it out and allow them to pump up more quickly.
