1993 Ford Explorer idles rough when engine is warm

My Ford Explorer idles rough when the engine is warm. The spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter have been replaced. A compression test yielded 150 per cylinder. The rough idling is somewhat intermitent. The engine seems to run smoother with higher rpm. Any ideas?

The only thing that was done to this 1993 ford explorer was change the spark plugs, wires and fuel filter, PCV  and a grommet.

You might want to check your fuel injectors or your O2 sensors there are 2 of them 1 on each side of the block located on the pipes coming from the exhaust manifold

Why a 2002 ford explorer idles rough?

Several things can cause rough idle on a Ford.

Check all vacuum hoses for, first of all, that they are there, and then that they have not been chewed by mice or squirrels (that happens), or rotted away (that happens too).

Check the coil pack(s) for corrosion at spark plug terminals, check plug wires--at night, the darker the better, raise hood with engine running; blue sparks or lightning jumping around the wires and plugs means your wires are dead--check plugs for fouling or tip wear, if your car has over 100,000 miles check catalytic converter and fuel filter, and check the TPS. The throttle position sensor monitors where the gas pedal is, and since most of the time, it is at the place that makes the car go 55, or idle, the TPS can get worn in those positions and send false signals to the PCM. Fords of that vintage also used a pulsed air feeder that can cause rough idle and is very difficult to service.

Best bet is vacuum leak first, then spark, then fuel, then the out-there stuff.

Idles irratic and runs rough down road after warmed up

Rough on idle when the engine is warm means there are many areas to be checked and it can start with the ECM , the fuel pump and more likely the sensors, check the throttle valve, the camsensor which can be set off which might need a correction. Also the vacuum feed for auto advance needs to checked.

2002 ford explorer sport trac , starts fine, runs good then about 30 min it starts to run rough, and idling poorly, not fuel or fuel filter

You need to check your plug wires for cracks and wear. The best way to know if they are bad is to run your engine at nightr and look for any time of blue arcing spark coming from any of the wires. I believe that replacing the wires will solve your problem.

Same issue with the rough idle with a warm engine 4.0 Ranger

i would think a plugged fuel injector on # 6 cylinder could be the problem,or a big vacuum leak at that cylinder
a valve burnt/stuck could be but you dont see much of that anymore
could be coolant leaking into cylinder from leaky haed gasket but you would have to add coolant every so often
i would check #6 cyl. spark plug after driveing around a while if it looks new, ie no deposits on it then an injector would be what i would change next

I HAVE A 1998 FORD EXPLORER AND IT HESITATES ON ACCELERATION AND SOMETIMES IDLES ROUGH. I REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, AND THE COIL PACK AND STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEMS. THE CODES SHOW MISSFIRES IN BANK 3...

Try running some fuel injector cleaner through your fuel tank. What you may have are a couple of plugged or missfiring fuel injectors. I would suggest checking all of your wiring to your injectors to insure good connection, replace your fuel filter and check for vacuum leaks.

My truck idling low

You replace alot of things but you should replace the EGR valve and the throttle positioning valve also. I would start with the EGR valve

Runs rough

How long have you had this problem? It could just be a bad tank of gas. Other things to check:
1. fuel pump and filter
Could be running on only 5 cylinders due to
2. spark plugs/wires
3. plugged fuel injector
Any problems with electrical? Like lights dimming at same time as running rough?
4. could be bad alternator putting excessive load on engine.
