There are 3 engine choices in the 98 volvo v70. All are 5 cylinders, 1. 2.3L turbo
2. 2.4L MFI DOC
3.2.4L Turbo
#2 is the most common engine for that year and model. If your engine doesn't have a turbo, that's the one u have.

V70 -2.4 liter turbo
V70 GLT -2.4 liter turbo
V70R, and V70 T5 -2.3 liter turbo

The v70 in 1998 came with 4 different motors. 2.3L, 2.4L, 2.5L and a 2.5L diesel. Look under the hood and see if you can find the engine or emissions tag and get me the engine family code and I can tell you what motor is in it. mike

P.S. You could also clean the oil filter off and copy the make and filter # down and the auto parts guys can get you the right filter from that.

Volvo v70 1998: how to bleed the air from the power steering after replacing the pump and the steering gear?

After putting in the steering oil, without putting the oil cap, start the engine and make full turn to right and left a few time, then check oil level and job is done.

Hello, please Volvo V 70 - 1999, 2,5 litre engine, where the oil filter is located on engine ??

It's above a cover on the right side of the oil pan. Remove the cover for access. This filter is a canister type which will require a special wrench to remove. You should be able to find the wrench at your local parts store, just ask the guys at the counter. It looks like a massive socket with 20ish( or more, just throwing a number out there) flats.

My 2004 V70 is using oil at about 1 liter/ 1000

NO WAY! this is way to excessive. try going to the next thicker oil. man that is just way to much. by the time you needed an oil change, youd be half empty. always use the volvo filters though.

98 Volvo V70 Turbo engine oil leak

It may be the gromet for the PCV valve or it could be the spark plug rubber seal located in the valve cover if it is the type of engine that has the wires and spark plugs that go down through the valve cover, if this is the case buy a valve cover gasket with the rubber gromets that are located around the base of the hole where spark plugs fit through and install.

Any particular quirks to changing the oil in a 1998 V70? I have 160K on it, is it time to go to a different grade of oil?

No different from any other oil change, just reset the oil life on the dash if it has one which i believe it does. The oil grade is 5W-30 on the turbo engines and 10W-30 on the non turbo engines. If you like you can go with the synthetic oil which will give you up to 25,000 miles or 1 year before service, but you do have to replace the oil filter every 5,000 to 7,000 mile and top off the synthetic oil which in the long run be cheaper then changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months for turbo and 3,000 to 4 months for non turbo engines. Good luck and hope this helps.

1999 volvo v70 oil change questions

You can buy a canister wrench at the local auto parts store. You do not need to torque the oil filter on, just hand tighten, No new gasket for the drain plugs just do make sure that it is tightened properly
