2004 1.8l nissan sentra what now? not battery or fuel pump/filter

I was driving on the highway and my car started to putter and would not go over 20 mph. i took it to the shop and they told me the fuel pump. we changed it in october. I still had problems for about 3 weeks and took it back to the shop and they changed the fuel pump again saying that mabye it was a bad one. Still having a problem a week later I took it to another shop and they checked a lot of things and put in a new battery, checked and fixed some wiring, reset the computer, and changed the fuel pump again. Still having a problem. When I try to start the car it will not start unless I give it gas and I should not have to because it is fuel injected. Sometimes it takes like 20 minutes of continuous cranking and pumping gas to get my car to start I have it back in the shop again and still no answers, can anyone help me please?!?!?!?!?!?

Check your catalytic converter. If you are over 80k miles, these devices will wear in stages. The first stage of wear is slower gear change at cruising speeds when approaching any type of incline. Second stage is the engine light will reveal a faulty oxygen sensor. Because the converter is basically a "filter" built into the exhaust system, it wears by slowly clogging, which leads to no starts, no power, and sometimes a blown head gasket. If your mechanic removed the oxygen sensor before the converter, theres a strong chance it would start right up.

There's a recall on all catalytic converts w/ 2004 Nissan Sentras. if this is your problem go to the dealer. I had mine replaced for free January 2009.

My 86 nissan sentra is starving for fuel and lugging out, on take off and when backing off the throttle at highway speeds, i am wanting to know where the fuel pump is and all the relays and fuses so i can...

I don't know what relays and fuses you want to check, but your 1988 Nissan Sentra is equipped with a mechanical fuel pump which is located on the rear of the engine under the intake manifold.
Your vehicle is also carbureted, not fuel-injected, so If I had your vehicle and it was lugging out on take-off, I would be looking at the accelerator pump in the carburetor, not the fuel pump.
It is SUPPOSED to be starved for fuel when backing off of the throttle.
Have you checked the fuel filter to see if it is clogged?

Why does mi car putter when i press on the gas and then eventually turns off?

Your fuel filter may be at the end of it's life and will need to be replaced. A dirty fuel filter will cause your engine not to have the proper fuel flow it needs to keep running.
Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter.
Thank you for using fixya and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon
