1968 Jaguar E type Carb problem

The car runs, but floods badly. When it idling, the left carb seems to flood itself no matter what i replace or adjust. When you rev it after idling it almost dies. Also when it warms up, the revs hunt around while idling. The carbs are Stromberg 175 cd2.

started as a flat spot in the RPM curve - basically when exceeding 2500 rpm's, the car would die as if the ignition switch were turned off. Checked all ignition parts, cleared them, went after fuel delivery system - all filters including sump, replaced fuel pump, and have just sent carbs out of re-buidling / re-bushing. Re-built carbs should arrive in a few days, will post if the problem is now solved.

Hi, I have the exact same problem with my Jag. I'm just wondering, did you ever find out what the issue was?

Have a 400 Eiger. Had the carb rebuilt twice. But

Either the carb isn't being rebuilt correctly, wrong parts, or assembled incorrectly. Special attention to the valve seat and float position. Also, did you set the idle mixture? The classic 2½ turns is ONLY a baseline.

My jag smells like as if it was flooding when i try to start it, when it does start it idles fine but as soon as I rev it up it bogs out, please help me as i really can`t afford to take it to a mechanic,...

Well first off what year and kind of Jag is it?That will make a difference on what might be the problem. If it is a carbureted model, it sounds like you either have a simple fuel line leak going to the carb so when your car sits fuel drips out and gives you the gas smell and then sucks air when you rev it up.If there is no line leak, sounds like your float in the carb is sticking open and simply flooding the carbs with gas, hence the smell and the bogging out at rpm.You would need a carb rebuild kit with float to fix that problem. That way you have gaskets and floats to fix your carb.

Rough idle, condensation comes from tailpipe when cranked. black smoke, and carb.floods with gas . seems to quit when its gets warmed up and then sometimes it dont.

I don't know the year model, if older carb, sounds like stuck choke, bad choke pull off or bad needle and seat in carb. If newer model, computer staying in closed loop, bad temperature sensor.
