The airbag warning light on my 2000 Sierra 1500 now stays on if the
passenger airbag is OFF, but not if the passenger airbag is ON.
It
always went off eventually either way, but I had the front door panels
off to replace speakers and in the process removed/replaced the
window/lock controls as well. So I'm wondering if it is just a reset
(like CHANGE ENGINE OIL message) and how to do that.
Most likely a problem with the passenger seat sensor, BUT you always start by getting the trouble code from the computer. Otherwise you're just guessing.

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. then just remove the bolts for the mirror

your heat/cool and vent selection options are controlled by engine vacuum through small clear tubes attached to the rear of your climate control interface. Other vehicles have small steel pull wires that operate the desired changes. You might try removing the trim and any fasteners affiliated with the interface/console. GENTLY pull outward and look to see if any of these tubes are pulled off or cut/damaged. Did anyone recently install a new stereo in the vehicle? If so, the vacuum tubing and or pull wires that change your outlets could have been damaged when the stereo unit was pushed into place. Hope this helps

Turn the ignition on and within a few seconds slowly pump the gas pedal three times. A message displaying "oil life reset" should show up in the drivers information center. If you have the "newer" driver information center look for an "i" button and scroll through it until you see "oil life **%" displayed. At that point press and hold the reset button until it resets to 100%. Should take about 10 seconds of holding the button.
There should be instructions on how to reset it in the owners manual if this doesn't help. Good luck.

This is normal. It's just telling the driver that the airbag has been disabled and to be aware of that.
