Make sure that you car is completly in the park position, if your car is an automatic. The key will not be able to move out of the ignition if for instance something is blocking the shifter.

SOURCE: 2004 Santa Fe Ignition switch locked

I just had this happen to me yesterday with my 2002 Santa Fe. After trying everything (jiggling steeling wheel, shaking the car, you name it we tried it). We got a chain and pulled the car ahead about 2 feet. That didn't seem to do anything but we then pulled up the emergency brake into the lock position and tried to start the car (with the ER brake on) and it worked!!! The steering wheel came unlocked and the car started up. Don't know if it was the pulling of the car that broke something free or if it was the ER brake, but that was what worked for me.

How to remove my Keys from 2003 envoy they are stuck

Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor mounted console gear shifter, it has a ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column as an added safety feature. The ignition lock cylinder control actuators purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a ignition lock cylinder control acutator, and a park position switch that is located in the A/T shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. GM has had some problems with this , If you have the console shifter there is a micro switch that when put into park a linkage pushes on this micro switch closing the circuit to ignition lock cylinder control actuator allowing you to remove your key ! These linkages fall out causing this problem ,an have electrical wiring problems as well ! I fixed a 2006 Chevy cobalt that had this same problem by getting a used shifter assembly at the auto salvage year ! cost $20.00 . There mite be a access hole under the bottom of the steering column with a release button up inside !

Bought a clicker for my son's used 2003 Hyundai Tiburon (base) we just purchased. He keeps the clicker, I went to open the door with my key, and the car went into crazy mode. I put the key in th

It happens a lot for the Tiburon apparently....what you have to do is put the key in the ignition whilst the horn is going nuts, turn the key to the "on" position and wait a minute or so for the horn to stop blowing. Then press the "unlock" button on the fob until you see the turn signals flash. try turning the key over and see if it will start up. If it doesn't, try again, same thing only turn the key all the way off and try starting as normal again. I can't remember if it's the "unlock" or "lock" button you're supposed to press, but one of them does it. Test it while in the car and see if it locks when you hit lock on the fob.....oh, and also make sure all the doors are shut while you are doing this. It recalibrates the fob to the car's computer and resets your security system and keyless entry.

I makes no difference if the key is in the switch (stuck or not) when removing the switch. The process is the same. Once removed you may want to take the lock to a local locksmith and have them check it. It may be much cheaper to service the lock than replace it. Also if you do opt for a new lock take it to the locksmith and have it keyed to your old key so you don;t have to carry two keys (one for the ignition & one for the doors).

My battery died on my 2003 tiburon and i tried to boost it and the lights start blinking and the siren goes off but the car won't start

Hello there,

Your Immobiliser has activated the alarm, you must deactivate the immobiliser to deactivate the alarm. go into the car (even if siren is wailing and your neighbours are nosy) close the door and put key in the ignition, turn key to ACC position. Hold down unlock button till you see indicators flash once. Remove keys and get out of the vehicle. Try unlocking and locking. This should be reset.

Cheers Buckaroo,
Chris.

Ignition switch won't turn back to off to allow key to be removed

this is usually caused by the steering wheel. Try wiggling the steerung wheel while turning the key back to the "Lock" position.

My 2003 sonota's ignition will not turn it is as if it is locked.

Try turning the steering wheel to one side a little when turning the ignition. The locking mechanism for the key tumbler will not turn if there is eccessive force on it. This can happen if you hit a curb while parking and turning off the car, or if the wheels are turned when shutting of the vehicle. My daughter had the same problem after parking and had to call me to ask me what to do. If that doesn't work there is something wrong with the key tumbler locking mechanism.
