Just the engine. The marks on the belt are to make sure the teeth are in the right place when replacing. It might come back in place on 4 turns of the crankshaft. I have never checked to see if the belt marks came back. But always check the timing marks themselves.
hi i had this problem my self not all of 2 weeks ago rebuilding a holden rodeo c22ne motor had bad miss new plugs will do you no good on this one in my case the side of the piston had cracked the three ring holes right threw leaving only the oil ring intact in this case if you have replaced coil and spark plugs and all sensors its almost betting to be a busted piston do a compression test to see your pistons should be around 190 psi if number one is down a long way ie in my case 50 psi its about $250 to fix your self and you have to buy all pistons no use buying one only
The timing marks are stamped into the head and in the cam pulley, also on the crank and the case, find them and paint them white so you can see them, the new belts have the marks on the belt, they will line up, If they don't , you got it wrong, You can do this without spinning the cams or crank and losing the marks, as long as the belt marks line up, you will be all set. Put the pin in the tensioner before removing the belt. Did you change the water pump? And I think the engine is 3.2L. Get it in there and pull the pin, It should be right on. Turn over the engine by hand a couple times to make sure it comes around on the marks. If it is wrong, it will go about 11 or 12 miles, and you will need a new engine. Hope this helps.
The marks should be in the shape of "arrows" or indented "lines" located on the pulleys and the face of the head gasket. There are alike marks on the crankshaft pulley and the face of the engine block also. Make sure your #1 cylinder is at "Top Dead Center" before you line up the pulleys on the cylinder head and install the belt.
