Rear lift door will not open. Latch does not open the door. Is the latch electric and where is the fuse for it?

have you fixed yours yet? mine started doing this last year

You will need to remove the panel from the inside of the rear door and then you will have access to the latch and assemblies in side the rear hatch.

I have the same issue on my 2002 Escape. I hear the cylinder motors engaging on the doors but not the liftgate so all I can assume is the wiring loom on the passenger side upper corner of the liftgate needs attention. That is where the wiring is for the door motor that releases the window and gate. I will post again after I solve this. 6/28/2009
put a screwdriver in the latch jaws and force it open

The good ol' Ford door lock mechanisms get tired after a while and need replacing.
This is a pretty common occurence as the Fords get older. Best to open the panels and replace before you can't get it open at all.
