2004 toyota sienna engine and vsc
Well the check engine light on can mean many different issues its just a symbol telling you that your ecu (engine computer) has found an issue with your vehicle it is not a specific indicator of whats going on unless you get the codes pulled from your computer any autozone will pull the codes for free and some shops will also just call around they will not diagnose prob for free though it could be anything vacume leaks - o2 sensor bad ext....as far as your vsc being on most of the time when your check engine light comes on the vsc will light up also does not mean there is an issue with your vsc system....i work as a mechanic for a toyota dealer and see his all the time and check to make sure your gas cap is tight will set check eng and i see it all the time when custs forget to tighhten gas cap if its loose you can get the codes erased hope this helps!!!!
Get a diagnosis for ecm from service or dealer, if you have many miles it might be the canister which is located under the car about the rear seat area under a shield. You can drive with bad canister but cannot pass an EPA test if your state has one. Very expensive but get one from a junk yard cheap and replace it, might work and cost is minimal, new ones are $300 on-line.

I have both lights on in my 2004 van also I have the engine light on. i took it to the dealer and they found the Yaw Rate Sensor (Vsc & TRAC) bad. The part is about$ 405 and is under the drivers seat. The other problems is the Catalyst System (engine light) about $1000 for parts.I have about 147,000 miles on my '04 and the problems started about 130,000.

On most Toyota's that are equipped with Cruise Control (Vehicle Speed Control or "VSC") and with Traction Control System (TCS or "Trac") all of these lights will come on at the same time if the Engine Control Module (ECM) determines that there is a fault in the engine management system that 1. Prevents the engine from being properly controlled. 2. Prevents the VSC from being properly controlled 3. Prevents the TCS from being properly controlled 4. Any combination of items 1,2, and 3.
Most of the time it is caused by a single fault in the engine management system. Fault codes are codes that are output by the ECM to let a diagnostician know which of the many systems, that are monitored by the ECM, is malfunctioning. To find out what the actual cause is, you must scan the ECM for fault codes then use this information to begin diagnosis of the system that the fault codes point to.

The Trac light comes on automatically, in conjuction with the Check Engine Light. You need your vehicle scanned for DTC codes.

remove the negative terminal on the bat for 5 min and then replace it

That is a common problem, if somebody does an alignment, or rotation on old tires or you hit a sidewalk and damage a rim, anything that can alter the steering angles of the vehicle can trigger a red flag and set a code for steering angle sensor calibration, only dealers and shops with the right equipment can perform this inexpensive procedure

Hello
The
Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual
transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically
controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control
Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or
other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a
record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this,
like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor
for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read
these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a
special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform
the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s)
DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED
THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT
MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for
correct spec for your make and engine type.

The VSC light will always come on with the check engine light, because VSC is telling you the ECM has a problem. You need to get the DTC code and I can help further.
You have to find out what the engine light code is. the v.s.c. light will go out when you repair the check engine light.
