Unable to find all 5 screws mentioned in owners manual to replace headlamp bulb on 2006 lincoln towncar

The procedure may be in your owners manual. The bulb comes out of the back of the headlamp housing from under the hood.

To replace a headlamp bulb, do the following:

1. Open the hood.

2. Remove the rubber

cover and socket from
the headlamp.

3. Release the retainer clip holding the bulb by

pressing down and moving the metal retainer away

from you.

4. Pull the bulb out of the fixture.
5. Reverse the steps to install a new bulb.

1. Remove the three pin-type retainers, two screws and the radiator defector.
2. Remove the 4 bolts securing the headlamp assembly and remove headlamp assembly.
- Disconnect electrical connector
3. Remove the 3 hex-head bolts and 2 torx-head screws and remove headlamp protective cover.
4. *****Standard low-beam bulb*****
Disconnect the connector from the bulb and remove the low beam bulb.
5. *****HID low beam bulb*****
Release the spring tabs and remove the HID low beam bulb
Disconnect the connector from the bulb
6. *****High beam bulb*****
Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the high beam bulb.
Reverse order to install

Removal
CAUTION: do not touch the glass of halogen bulbs with fingers or other possibly oily surface, reduced life will result.

1) Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable.
2) Remove headlamp unit retaining screws. (bolts)
3) Remove headlamp unit to expose back of unit.
4) Disconnect wire connector from back of headlamp bulb.
5) Rotate retaining ring counterclockwise.
6) Remove retaining ring.
7) Pull headlamp bulb and remove from headlamp unit.

Installation

1) Install headlamp bulb to the headlamp unit.
2) Install headlamp bulb retaining ring.
3) Rotate retaining ring clockwise.
4) Connect wire connector to bulb.
5) Install headlamp unit.
6) Install headlamp retaining screws. (bolts)
7) Connect the battery negative cable.

Removal

1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2) Remove the two retaining screws.
3) Remove the upper fascia retainers by prying under the head of the fasteners with a flat bladed tool.
4) Remove headlamp unit from fender side first, then pull headlamp unit out.
5) Disconnect the wiring harness from the bulbs.
6) Remove the headlamp unit.

Installation

1) Connect wire harness to the bulbs.
2) Install headlamp unit.
3) Install the retaining screws.
4) Install upper fascia retainers.
5) Connect the battery negative cable.

To replace the sidemarker light on a 96 Towncar, raise the hood and open the black plastic flap behind the header panel on that side. There is a 11mm nut down about 5" on the side. Remove it. The screw is on the outside just past the plastic lens. Pull the light out far enough to unscrew the bulb socket.

You must first remove the Headlamp bezel which is the chrome trim that surrounds the duel headlamp housing. The chrome trim surround is mounted to the Headlamp mount panel with three nuts which you can only access on the inside. Pop open the hood and look on the inside near were the headlamp bulbs are. You will see the three mount nuts for the headlamp bezel. Might be rusty so first give it a shot of WD40 or similar. Remove the nuts and then you can lift the headlamp bezel from the outside away from the headlamp bulbs. The headlamp bezel only has tabs that slid into a slot on the bottom so you can lift out once the top three nuts are removed. Once the headlamp bezel has been removed you can then access the 4 screws that hold the headlamp trim ring in place which is what holds the headlamp bulb in place. There are several other screws that in the same area but they are only for adjustment of the headlamp bulbs within the housing. Leave them in place. Remove the stainless steel ring that is holding the lamp in place, and then unplug the headlamp from the back and replace the headlamp. Should take you less than 5 or 10 minutes. Dan

Navigator high intensity discharge (HID) headlamp

1. Remove the front radiator air deflector.

1. Remove the three bolts and the headlamp assembly.
• Disconnect the electrical connectors.

8. Remove the headlamp bulb protective cover(s).

• Remove the HID lamp cover.
• Remove the high beam cover.
• Disconnect the electrical connector and push the grommet into the headlamp assembly.

1. Release the spring tabs and remove the HID low beam bulb.

check the fuse for the brake lights. The brake lights and siganl lights use the same bulb filament. The parking and running lights use a dimmer filament in the bulb. There are 2 filaments.
Your brake lights work through the multifunction switch which operates the signal lights. If the signal lights work, you may have a bad brake lamp switch which is on your brake pedal arm.

I recommend autozone if you buy the bulb from them they will assist you but I believe it has to be replaced from inside the trunk
