Question about 1993 Ford Tempo

1 Answer

1993 ford tempo a/t wont come out of 1st gear.

I have changed filter to discover that the large speedometor gear is broken and bits were found in trany pan and filter. Replaced filter, trans fluid and removed what was left of the speedometor gear that was around the trans axle. I do not see how this will effect shifting but if it does then please let me know? I am definately a trany guy. But the owner is 68 yrs old and cant afford a new car. The gear that was bad is not the gear conected to the spedo cable but the gear that drive the gear for the spedo cable (POLYPROPOLENE GEAR)

yes, is there a way to bypass that or is it new trany time lol. I think i will try to un hook it and see if that might do anything? thank you for the thought and any furhter recomendations that I am not thinking of would be appreciated......keefers

Well the key to the whole thing is that the gear that drives the speedo cable is gone. The speedometor wont work because there is nothing turn the gear so there is nothing for the computer to tell when to shift......thank you for wakeing up my one brain cell. I should have realised it earlier but you know how that can gop sometimes...........Although it may not have been a total solution you did give me what I needed. so you still are GURU for me thanks!!!!!!!!!

My 1993 ford tempo 2.3L wants to slip in reverse but changed trans fluid and was very clean and works fine in all forward gears. Is trans going out or could it be an adjustment?

be careful when changing gears into reverse and be careful while in reverse and your transmission should last but if you ride on that gear to much your transmission will fail and you will no longer have reverse in your vehicle even if you have all other gears working

93 tempo

I had the same problem a few months back with my 93 Tempo. After fiddling with the battery, checking for spark, and messing with my distributor cap, I found the emergency fuel shut off reset button in the trunk. If you haven't already, open the trunk, and on the left hand side there is a recess with a largish red button. Press it. If it clicks, then your fuel injector shut off because it though it had been in an accident (mine happened right after pulling into my driveway, where I had bottomed out a little bit, so it doesn't take much to set it off). If it clicks, your car should start immediately
Hope it helps!
