I just changed the belt in my 2002 Trooper. The new timing belt will have marks on it probably thin white lines. these line will match up with the two cam gears (top right and left) and the crank pulley. The three white lines are spaced differently and the belt will only match up one way. Put the belt next to the existing belt if you can before you start to get an idea how it all lines up. The cam gears and crank all have either a raised line on the metal or a paint mark. By the way, this is a non-interference motor so you won't have to worry about punching a hole in your pistons if you get it wrong. The good thing is as long as you get all three lines lined up, it doesn't matter if the pulleys move (and they will) This job is a two person job and the hardest part is getting the belt tensioner nested and a pin inserted as a keeper. Use a knife and cut the old belt off then unbolt the belt tensioner. Use a vice to slowly compress the tensioner and then insert an allen wrench in the keeper hole. It will be easier if you use small needle nose vice grips to hold the belt in place on each cam pulley. you should be able to finish this job in 3 - 4 hours as long as you know what you are doing and own some metric tools. Good luck.

I repaired a 3.1 4JG2 but the mechanic doesn´t know how to set the injection time. I can see the marks on the crank and camshaft as well as the inyection pulley but if I try to install the belt "just like that", the injection goes wrong with explosions and white smoke. Can anyone help please? Is there any other procedure to follow to time the inyection?
thanks in advance

The number one piston is at TDC on the compression stroke when the notch in the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the 0 on the timing plate. and the rotor is pointing at the number one spark plug terminal in the distributor cap. You will probably have to pull the valve cover to find top dead center.
these free wheel when belt breaks they dont bend valves
but you need to remove both rocker covers to align cam gear mark and have cam lobes in these positions
