Peugeot 404 auto box doesn't shift to second in drive for about first 8km after startup in the morning.

Redone gearbox, new cluches, checked 'cable'(kick back arm). When it starts shifting, after about 8km, it keeps shifting fine until the next morning? Reverse makes grrr.. rattling sound and has little power.

sounds like you should start by dropping the pan and changing the filter, put cheap fluid in it or reuse the old fluid if its not too bad bring it to a shop and have a transmission flush performed with a good flush machine your valve body is sticking and this should clear things up please rate -jeff

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.

SOURCE: Jeep CJ7 clutch/gearbox rattle

it could be a universal joint and not the trans at all.Put your jeep in park and get under it and check for play at each end of the shaft(try turning it by hand counterclockwise and clockwise then try moving it up and down and side to side) If there is any play at all you, need universal joints. Your jeep may also have a hanger bearing.....Check it for play as well
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Is it possible that the sound is happening every time you hit 14 mph after a fresh start? The TC does a ABS check 14 mph that runs the pump for a second.

most likely the shift tube bushings are bad- you may have also lost a few screws in the shift tube or they could just be loose. you have to pull the steernig column down to inspect/repair it.

I have a new Peugeot 3008 SUV auto. I have been told the gearbox monitors the way I drive, so if I am too heavy on the gas pedal the mpg will be poor but drive carefully and get good mpg.

The gearbox adjusts when it changes gear to match the way you drive. If you are heavy footed It will change gear at a different rev level compared to a gentle driving method. Some models have a "Cheat" where you can reset the gearbox using the pedals and ignition in a set order. Unfortunately I don't.know the sequence for Peugeot gearboxes.
The 'Heavy on the Gas' idea applies to both manual and auto gearboxes.

their are no spares sold for this gearbox as far as i know of here in spain its a reconditioned box from dealer was all i could find for one of these cars or the scrapyard .Maybe stateside where they can only drive autos for what ever reason ?? you may find the spares but a little tip here is to look under the passenger side floor as the main computer for the gearbox is here and if the Ac condensate outlet pipe gets block it fills the well up with water where the computer is and this causes it not to work just as you describe

check around the selector area at the gearbox and where the shift lever sits to see if a harnes section or wire is getting trapped, chafed, or crushed, or if a plug is being pulled when 2nd is selected. The actual gears and box have NO way to cut the engine out so the moving external parts on the gearbox or shift must be causing an electrical cut out by interfering with nearby components.

Auto gearbox

if it has a dip stick under the bonnet you need to have the engine running with the box in neutral then dip the oil
if the engine is warm then it should read around the top mark, if the engine us cold then it should rear around the lower mark
if there is no dip stick then there is no way of checking the level and you will need to drain the box and re fill with the correct ammount through the gearbox breather on the top

95 honda civic automatic will not shift into second

Hi there OK, I assume that the autobox is stuck in first and you have two possible problems. Firstly, the shift value in the shift value block is stuck thus continually selecting first gear, or the speed sensor within the auto box is seized. Both these problems is as a result of not having the gearbox oil changed as per the recommended service intervals. Firstly, identify the colour of oil on the auto tarns dip-stick - if it's black, you need to change the oil in the autobox. After you have done this, drive the car in first for a few miles to circulate the new oil and after the vehicle is at normal operating temperture, go as fast as you can in first gear. What this is doing is maximising the load on the speed sensor in the gearbox and by increasing the speed it might just unseaze and change into the other gears. The other thing to do is a stall test, but I suggest that you have a Honda Dealer do this. Best regards, Scottech

My 405 diesel est gearbox

no you should not have to change the flywheel they were all the same - but as the cable and clutch fork operate differently you would be advised to check this

one anchors the cable outer and the inner cable moves the clutch fork
the other the inner cable is anchored and the outer sheath moves the clutch fork

also while you have it all off change the clutch thrust bearing
and be careful of the plastic speedo drive housed in the output of the diff it doesnt take much to break it (drive shaft going in at a slight angle)
