OK, I'll play this game: 1. When it shuts off, did you check to see if there is spark? (how about fuel... is pump running?) 2. How do you start it after this happens?? 3. Did you have this or a similar problem before it was tuned up???

I would want to know what the code is first. You may have to go to an independent garage for help. Auto parts stores can scan the ECM but not always the body computer.
Over the years varnish will build up around that plastic and makes it hard for it to come apart. Spray around it with some solvent and let it soak for a few minutes. Then get someone to help you to depress the retainers and pull it apart. I usually buy the whole pump assembly, it's only a few dollars more & comes complete with new sending unit. Hope this helps.
they are both right it depends on the year of the vehicle older models are behind the glove box but my manual only goes to 2000 so iam cannot help here ,keep looking and you will find them
If they have not changed the design, the retaining spring is part of the "extinguishing bar" (where you put cigarettes out) the clip tends to lock in the down position and needs to simply be pushed back up to engage the retainer in the dashboard opening
