Fan has stopped working causing over heating, what is the most likely cause
There are 3 possible things;
The fan motor itself
The coolant temperature switch, which operates the fans, usually screwed into the engine block near the thermostat housing. Have to drian radiator to change it.
The relay-- It's a small black square shaped object, some are located in the fuse box in the engine compartment, and some are mounted on a bracket on the firewall, passenger side.
Could be in the wiring that connects these components.
To check the fan motor----- disconnect the wire plug from the fan motor, use jumper wires directly from the battery to the connector on the fan, If the fan works, then either the temp switch is bad, the relay, or the wiring.If the doesn't work, that is bad and needs to be replaced.
