The temp sensor is in the intake manifold below and to the rear of the carborator. On fedeal engines it has 1 single wire to the sensor. If it has California emissions then the sensor has 2 wires.

Got 87 Chevy 4x4 350 TBI at ideal it rev up and down when driving down road its like you turn key off but picks back up for a second then stalls again the motor has 3,200 miles replaced dang near...

Sounds like multiple problems. rev up and down at idle sounds like vacuum leak. shutting down while driving sounds like loose wire in the ignition system or possibly in the fuel pump.

I have a 92 GMC K1500 I drove approx. 2 miles to deliver a package truck was running fine. shut it off approx 10 min. later would not crank. pulled off air breather was not getting fuel. thought fuel pump...

It can still be the fuel pump.the pump could be getting hot and not working. If u let it set for awhile and cool down it will start. You need to do a fuel pressure test it should read between 40 and 50 psi. Let it run for awhile and see if the pressure drops. If so I would replace the pump

What fuel octane grade should be used?

Government mandates all vehicles can run on 87 octane. For that vehicle it would be just fine. I de rec. To do a tank of 87 check milge you are getting. The run a tank of 89 check milges and calculate the differnce milge and cost. I have found with some vehicle the extra 1$ or 2$ you may spend on 89 will get you 2 -3 mile more per gallon.

After 20 miles or so the car overheats and shuts off but once it cools down its fine again

The ignition module in located in the distributor under the cap. Might contribute to the stalling ,control spark to spark plugs, timming advance etc, but has no bearing on overheating. Hope this helps.
