On both rear windows, or just one? If its just one then probably the regulator mechanism in the door has broken (there are some rather fragile plastic parts that can snap with age). The mechanism is easily replaced by removing the door trim (take out two screws found under the rubber mat in the door handle well, and pry off the whole door panel with a wide blade screwdriver or cats paw (start at top edge nearest to rear - 4-6 snap fittings should pop off reasonably easily). Unscrew old mechainsm and replace the whole thing.. Parts usually available on Ebay for $50 to $100, make sure you get the correct orientation, front and rear, and left and right, are all different parts - Lincon LS parts also fit perfectly).
If both windows not working and stopped at the same time... sounds electrical.. start checking fuses?
window is off track or the regulator is bad, you will need to remove the panel and inspect the window and regulator, if it is the regulator you will see a loose cable. Good Luck Tim
You broke the window "regulator". You will need to have the regulator replaced (which is behind the door panel). Honestly, if you are not a mechanic, do not try this yourself, it is very easy to mess up things when doing the replacement if you are not carefull.
Hi lec the rear glass has a white plastic clip holding the glass to the regulator. try from the door side, pushing the center plastic pin out toward you then the glass will lift out D
Inside thr rear pull handle pickout the black rubber cover there vare screws under that. the other screws are obviuos. You will need a new window regulator to fix your problem get one in advance. you will also need a very large rivet gun or take the car to a glass shop.
I followed the instructions given by your expert Richard. His instrutions were clear and precise, and I had the problem solved in 5 minutes.best regards A.Taylor
2001 Jaguar S-Type left rear window. Took door panel off to rig and keep window from coming down. Motor works, will not move window up or down.
